Five women's teams and four men's teams are in competition this weekend.

WAC TEAM NOTES

BOISE STATE BRONCOS - Boise State put forth solid performances at the West Coast Preview in Portland, Ore., as the men and women both collected second place finishes. Junior Breanna Sande led the women, finishing in fourth place with a 21:59 on the 6,000-meter course, while Chaly Jones also collected eight points for the Broncos, finishing with a 22:32. The Bronco men were led by freshman Sawyer Bosch, who finished in fifth place with a 25:34.2 on the 8,000-meter course. The Boise State men’s and women’s cross country teams will continue their seasons Saturday, Sept. 14, hosting the Bob Firman Classic in Eagle, Idaho.

FRESNO STATE -  Sophomore Marissa McPhail captured the women’s 5k race and freshman Erick Garcia took second in the men’s 8k to lead the Bulldogs Saturday at the Hornet Jamboree in Sacramento. Both the men and women finished in second place as a team in their respective races. McPhail and three other Bulldogs finished in the top 10, coming in just one point short of first-place Nevada. The Bulldogs are back in action next week when they head to the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu, Calif., on Sept. 15.

HAWAI?I RAINBOWS - Hawai’i senior Chantelle Wilder captured her sixth career title and second this season at the Chamindae Invitational, pacing the field with a 5k time of 18:31. As a team, the Rainbow Wahine placed third with 67 points, behind winner BYU-Hawai?i (38) and Hawai?i-Hilo (40). This weekend Hawai?i will host the UH Big Wave Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course.

IDAHO VANDALS - The Idaho men and women both had solid outings at the Sundodger Invitational as the women took home second place and the men finished sixth. The Vandal women put three runners in the top 15, led by sophomore Melissa McFaddan who finished tenth. Diego Moreno-Guzman finished seventh overall for the men with a time of 24:19 on the 8k course. Idaho’s next meet will be in two weeks at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore.

LOUISIANA TECH BULLDOGS - Louisiana Tech hosted its annual Mook 4 Invitational at Lincoln Parish Park in a triple-dual scoring competition, with the men taking three wins against La.-Monrore, La.-Lafayette and Northwestern State, while the women picked up a win against La. College. The men were led by sixth-place Jace Benoit with a 4-mile time of 21:19, and the women were led by Lauren Gilbert with a 16:52 in the 4k.
NEVADA WOLF PACK - Nevada recorded its first team win of 2007, claiming first at the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree at Granite Regional Park on Saturday, marking the first team win since Oct. 15, 2005. The Wolf Pack were led by Christa Aventa, clocking a 5k time of 18:33, a personal best by 69 seconds. Four other Pack runners also finished in the top 10. Nevada will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. on Sept. 26 to compete in the Stanford Invitational.

NEW MEXICO STATE AGGIES - The Aggie men and women finished an impressive fourth and second place, respectively, at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational in Santa Teresa, N.M., on Friday. The men were led by four freshmen, with Michael Hart being the first Aggie to cross the finish line in 12th place. For the second week in a row, freshman Brandi Gutierrez led the way for the women with a third place finish and a time of 20:00. The Aggies will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 22 as they host the Kachina Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.

SAN JOSE STATE SPARTANS - The Spartans’ next meet is the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu, Calif. on Sept. 22. San Jose State turned in strong performances at the USF Invitational, Sept. 1, as both the men’s and women’s squads took third places in their respective races.

UTAH STATE AGGIES  - Utah State senior Amy Egan led the women’s team to first place at the Montana State Invitational on Saturday, finishing eighth in the three-mile with a time of 17:28, while junior Seth Wold finished in second place to lead the Aggie men to a third place finish overall. Utah State continues action Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Springfield, Ore. to run in the Oregon Invitational. 

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
? The 2007 WAC Cross Country Championship travels to Logan, Utah. This year’s championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the American West Heritage Center. Host Utah State’s men and women swept the 2006 WAC Championship in Fresno, Calif.

NCAA REGIONALS ? The 2007 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country, Saturday, Nov. 10. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Eugene, Ore. (University of Oregon). The Mountain Region will be held in Riverdale, Utah. (Weber State University), while Louisiana Tech will be the lone team in the South Central Regional (University of Arkansas) in Fayetteville, Ark.
