Hawai'i's Ako Earns National Honor

DENVER - Hawai’i forward Abree Ako has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week, for the week of Sept. 3, following her performance in the OHANA Hotels & Resorts No Ka Oi Tournament.  This is Ako’s first career honor of this nature, and she is the only Rainbow Wahine to have received this accolade since 2004, when former Hawai’i defender Jessica Uecker was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team.

Ako, a sophomore from ?Aiea, O’ahu, led Hawai’i in both 2007 season-opening matches, tallying six points for the Rainbow Wahine to help UH defeat No. 26 Kansas, 4-0, and Auburn, 2-1 (OT), in the OHANA Hotels & Resorts No KA Oi Tournament.  She scored three goals, two of which were game-winners, and registered her first multi-goal match of her career in the come-from-behind overtime win against Auburn.  In the Aug. 31 dominating victory over No. 26 Kansas, Ako helped Hawai’i pick up its first ever win over a ranked opponent.

Hawai'i returnes to action this week, hosting its second tournament of the season, with Pacific and Tennessee-Martin making the trip to the Outriggers Hotels & Resorts Soccer Classic.
