WAC Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week Announced

Nevada senior Courtney Eads has been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, for the week of Oct. 6-12.

 

Eads, a senior from Upland, Calif. (Oregon State), won all six events in which she competed at the WAC Shoot-Out (Las Cruces, N.M.), swimming four strokes as the Pack went 4-1 in five duals to open the season. Friday, she won three individual events including the longest two races of the day, the 500 and 1000-freestyle events in times of 5:04.42 and 10:26.02, respectively. The senior also won the 200-yard Individual Medley the same day. In Saturday’s events, she improved on her 500-yard freestyle time by coming in first at 5:03.00 and also won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.50. She also swam the final leg of Nevada’s 400-yard medley relay team that finished 3:53.11.

 

Other nominees included: San Jose State’s Heather Denman was the Spartans’ top individual performer for the second straight week leading them to a perfect 5-0 record at the WAC Shoot-Out with her first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, good for fourth on the school’s all-time list. New Mexico State’s Maria Spies won the 200-yard breaststroke by shattering a school record by two seconds with a time of 2:17.44. Chelsea Lopus of Boise State finished the WAC Shoot-Out with four wins and two school records.
