TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES
Boise State Broncos
The Broncos did not compete last week ... the squad returns to action this week as it will compete in the Santa Clara Invitational on Saturday.
Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State had last week off ... the team will split up for a pair of meets this week at the CSUB Quad meet in Bakersfield, and the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale.
Hawai?i Rainbow Wahine
Hawai?i participated in the Hawai?i Pacific University Invitational Saturday at Kualoa Ranch ... the hilly 5K women’s race was won by former UH runner Chantelle Wilder, who competed unattached ... UH’s top finisher for the fourth consecutive meet was sophomore Mariana Monasi, who crossed the finish line in 20:25 for 11th place ... junior Tava Tedesco placed 25th after clocking in at 21:09 ... other UH participants scoring team points included freshman Liisa Cushing (21:30, 31st), sophomore Briana Goodnight (23:22, 46th), and freshman Gina Nourmohamadian (24:40, 50th) ... as a team, the Rainbow Wahine placed sixth with 137 team points.
Idaho Vandals
The Vandals did not compete last week ... the team returns to action this week as the team will split for a pair of meets at the Eastern Washington Invitational in Cheney and the Santa Clara Invitational in Santa Clara.
Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech took last week off ... the team will compete at the Chile Pepper Festival race in Fayetteville this Saturday.
Nevada Wolf Pack
Like may of the WAC schools, Nevada also had last week off ... the team is back in action on Saturday at the Santa Clara Invitational in California.
New Mexico State Aggies
The Aggies did not compete last week ... the team returns to the course this Saturday at the Santa Clara Invitational in California.
San Jose State Spartans
San Jose State’s men finished third at the San Francisco State Invitational last week ... David Haefele was the Spartans’ top finisher, finishing the race in 26:21, good for 12th place ... Sean Dundon finished 20th at 26:48, while Alan Shelton was 26th at 26:58 ... Alex Esparza finished in 27:59 for 49th place ... Jenna Hicks finished ninth to lead the San Jose State women’s cross country team to a third-place finish ... Hicks ran the 6K course in 22:59 ... two others had top-20 finishes, led by Elizabeth Raymond at 14th in a time of 23:07 and followed by Arely Marquez at 19th in 23:26 ... SJSU will compete in the Santa Clara Invitational Saturday.
Utah State Aggies
Utah State took the week off from competition ... the team returns to the course this Saturday at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
WAC NOTES
SAN JOSE STATE’S HAEFELE AND HICKS NAMED CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
San Jose State’s David Haefele and Jenna Hicks have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 6 ? Oct. 12.
Haefele, a junior from Orange, Calif. (Villa Park HS), had the best finish of any Spartan this year with his time of 26:21, good for 12th place in the 8K race. He helped San Jose State to a third-place finish at the San Francisco Invitational.
Hicks, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), finished in ninth at the San Francisco Invitational with a 22:59 time in the 6K race. It marks the first time this season that a SJSU runner has finished in the top-10 this season. Her time helped the Spartans to a third-place finish
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2008 WAC Cross Country Championship travels to Las Cruces, New Mexico. This year’s championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 at the New Mexico State Golf Course. Utah State won last year’s men’s championship, while Idaho took the title on the women’s side.

NCAA REGIONALS
The 2008 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country, Saturday, Nov. 15. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Stanford, Calif. (Stanford University). The Mountain Region will be held in For Collins, Colo. (Colorado State University), while Louisiana Tech will be the lone team in the South Central Regional (Baylor) in Waco, Texas.
