WAC Announces September Tennis Players of the Month

Denver - Boise State’s Kean Feeder and New Mexico State’s Laura Boguet have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Month for September. This is the first Tennis Players of the Month award for the 2008 Fall season. 

 

Kean, a senior from Portland, Ore (Cascade College), finished the Boise State Fall Classic with a perfect 9-0 record. He never lost a set in the singles tournament, sweeping his way to the title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Artem Kuznetsov of Mississippi State in the semifinals before a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Idaho’s Stanislav Glukhov in the finals. The senior also teamed up with doubles partner Blane Shields to take the doubles crown after going 4-0.  The pair was ranked No.1 in the doubles draw while Feeder began the singles tournament as the No.2 seed.

 

Boguet, a junior from Annecy Le Vieux, France, finished the month of September with a 3-1 singles record and a 3-0 record in doubles play with teammate Natalia Salum Soto. At the Aggie Fall Invite, that ran Sept. 19-21, Boguet won all three of her singles matches in straight sets with her only loss coming at the hands of Oklahoma State’s JoAnne Karaitiana. In doubles play, Boguet and Soto won all three of their doubles matches en route to the Aggie Fall Invite title.

 

Other male nominees included: Fresno State’s Rudolf Siwy finished with a 4-1 doubles record before falling to Wisconsin’s No.39 Baumann/Michalicka in the finals at the H.E.B. Invitational (Waco, Texas). Jim Brouleau of New Mexico State finished with an 8-1 record in September in singles play. Jakob Asplund of Utah State tabbed a 5-4 singles record and a 6-3 doubles record in September, including a run to the doubles quarterfinals with partner Lukas Bouton. Idaho’s Stanislav Glukhov compiled a 4-1 record and advanced to the finals of the Boise State Fall Classic.

 

Other female nominees included: Abigail Olivier of Fresno State finished with a 4-1 singles record including a 6-3, 6-1, win over No. 22 Claire Ilcinkas of California. Utah State’s Hailey Swenson finished with a 3-2 overall singles record for September and advanced to the consolation quarterfinals of the BYU Invitational. Boise State’s Lauren Megale competed in her first tournament as a Bronco at the BYU Invitational and posted a 3-1 singles record in the main draw including a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over No. 1 seed Christina Doerr.
