DENVER ? New Mexico State’s Travis Reid and Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro have been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Month for October.
Reid, a senior from Clovis, N.M. (Clovis HS), won the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and finished in a tie for 13th at the Wolf Pack Classic in the month of October. He began the month at the Wolf Pack Classic, Oct. 6-7, with a one-under 215 (74-70-71) to help the Aggies win the team title. New Mexico State then returned home where it won its own Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate tournament by beating out 17 other teams. Reid won the tournament by one stroke with a five-under 208 (72-70-66). The 66 in the final round helped the Aggies overcome a 10-stroke deficit after the first two rounds. Reid averaged 70.5 strokes over the six rounds in which he played.
Mortellaro, a freshman from Phoenix, Ariz. (Mesa Distance Learning), competed in two tournaments and averaged 72.67 strokes over six rounds this past month. In the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, Oct. 6-8, she came in second place with a six-over 222 (74-73-75). This past week at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 27-29, she was the highest finishing Vandal with a two-under 214 (72-73-69) that placed her in a tie for 22nd. Her 69 on the final day included a hole-in-one on the 168-yard eighth hole.

Other women nominated: Mandi Hedberg, Boise State; Lindi Covarrubias, Fresno State; Suteera Chanachai, New Mexico State; and Erica Moston, San Jose State.
