HONOLULU, Hawaii
? No. 8 Hawai`i (19-3, 12-1 WAC) swept Utah State
(9-15, 7-6) 25-19, 25-14, 25-13 in front of a crowd of 6,094 at the Stan
Sheriff Center Saturday.
Hawai?i hit a
season-high .458 on the match and held Utah State
to a .159 hitting percentage. The Rainbow Wahine also nearly doubled the Aggies
in kills (46-25), assists (43-23) and digs (41-25).
Jamie
Houston hit .500 with 13 kills and seven digs, while
Kanani Danielson added seven kills and a match-high 12 digs. Dani
Mafua dished out 38 assists.
Melissa Osterloh
paced Utah State with six kills, while Chelsea
Fowles totaled 20 assists and Christine Morrill had nine digs.
BOISE, Idaho ? New
Mexico State (17-7,
11-1) rattled off eight service aces in a sweep (25-23, 25-11, 25-9) of Boise State
(7-16, 3-9) at Bronco Gym Saturday.
The
Aggies dominated the match, bettering the Broncos in kills (42-16), assists
(38-10), digs (54-32), blocks (10-5) and service aces (8-2).
Lindsey
Yon finished with a match-high 10 kills and 12 digs for her eighth double-double
on the year. Amber Simpson added nine kills on .375 hitting, while Krystal
Torres had a match-high 15 digs.
Lydia Blaha
led Boise State with six kills.
SAN JOSE, Calif. ? Idaho defeated San Jose State in four sets (25-21, 20-25, 30-28,
25-15) Saturday.
With
the win, the Vandals improve to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in WAC play and are guaranteed
at least a .500 conference record for the sixth-consecutive season. Idaho defeated San Jose
State (10-14, 5-7) at San Jose for the first time in the series.
As
a team, the Vandals finished with a .295 hitting percentage compared to .245
for the Spartans. Idaho
held a 12.0-4.0 advantage in blocks and a 79-73 advantage in digs.
Haley
Larsen led the Vandals with her second double-double of the week with 25 kills
and 10 digs. Sarah Conwell added 17 kills and added a career-high hitting
percentage at .429 while Kelsey Yonker totaled 26 digs. Cassie Hamilton and
Sarah Loney each tallied 12 digs and Kelsey James finished with 55 assists.
Brianna
Amian and Kelly Crow each posted double-doubles for the Spartans. Amian
finished with 15 kills and 18 digs, while Crow had 13 kills and 13 digs.
FRESNO, Calif.
? Fresno State picked up its sixth-straight victory over Louisiana Tech on
Saturday at the Save
Mart Center,
winning in four sets by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-17.
At 6-15 overall and 3-9 in WAC play, the Bulldogs now have
exceeded their win total from the 2007 season and equaled their WAC win total.
It was also the first WAC home win of the 2008 season for Fresno State
and the second home win of the year.
Fresno State finished with 59 total kills, a .165 hitting
percentage, 55 assists and 72 digs, all categories in which they led Louisiana
Tech, which finished with 37 kills, a .099 hitting percentage, 32 assists and
63 digs.
Baylee Platt led all players with 24 kills. Kelly Leonardo had
a career night, finishing with career highs in hitting percentage (.348), block
assists (4), total blocks (5) and points (24). Lacey Gera had season highs in kills (17), points
(21) and total blocks (4), along with career highs in digs (10) and block solos
(2).
