UTAH STATE SWEEPS CROSS COUNTRY TITLES
Utah State swept the 2008 WAC Cross Country team championship titles Saturday morning at the New Mexico State golf course in Las Cruces. Idaho’s Allix Lee-Painter and Utah State’s Jason Holt claimed the individual championship titles.
The Utah State men claimed a fourth-straight team title as five runners finished in the top-20, including three in the top seven. Jason Holt led the Aggies to the title with and claimed the individual championship in the process, covering the 8K course with a time of 25:34.80. Ben Kessen followed in third at 25:44.80, while Steve Strickland finished seventh with a time of 26:13.80.
Utah State’s women won the team title as five runners finished in the top-15, including three in the top-10. Ashley Johnson led the Aggies with a third place finish, clocking a time of 18:29.80. Kim Quinn crossed the finish line in ninth place (18:55.30), followed by Caroline Berry in 10th (18:57.80).
Idaho senior Allix Lee-Painter claimed the women’s individual title with a time of 18:00.20. Boise State senior and 2007 WAC champion Breanna Sande crossed the finish line in second (18:25.80), while Utah State’s Johnson was third (18:29.80).
Utah State’s Holt and Fresno State’s Erick Garcia sprinted to the finish with Holt winning the individual men’s title with a time of 25:34.80, followed by Garcia at 25:37.10. USU’s Kessen finished third at 25:44.80.

NCAA REGIONALS
The 2008 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country, Saturday, Nov. 15. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Stanford, Calif. (Stanford University). The Mountain Region will be held in For Collins, Colo. (Colorado State University), while Louisiana Tech will be the lone team in the South Central Regional (Baylor) in Waco, Texas.
