LAS CRUCES, N.M. ? New Mexico State earned its 12th-straight victory Thursday, sweeping Utah State 25-12, 25-14, 25-20 at the Pan American Center. The win pulls New Mexico State within one match of clinching a share of its first-ever WAC Championship.
With Thursday’s sweep, which was the ninth during their winning streak, the Aggies gave head coach Mike Jordan his seventh straight season with 20 or more victories. New Mexico State improved to 20-7 (14-1 WAC) on the year while the navy blue-clad Aggies fell to 10-16 (8-6).
Lindsey Yon led the team with 15 kills on .522 hitting, while Amber Simpson finished with 10 kills on 643 hitting. Krystal Torres had 11 digs to lead the Aggies’ defense, which held Utah State to a .152 hitting percentage. Setters Alyssa Gintant and Jennah DeVries had 23 and 17 assists, respectively.
Melissa Osterloh led Utah State with seven kills, while Chelsea Fowles dished out 23 assists.
MOSCOW, Idaho ? Idaho defeated Nevada in four sets (25-10, 19-25, 28-26, 25-17) Thursday to lock up the third seed in next week's WAC Tournament. With the win, the Vandals improve to 17-9 overall and 10-5 in the WAC. Nevada falls to 11-14 overall and 6-9 in league play.
Idaho out-hit the Wolf Pack .210 to .063 and out-blocked Nevada 19-9.
Haley Larsen led all players with 15 kills, while Sarah Loney, Anna McKinney and Sarah Conwell finished with 10 kills apiece. Kelsey Taylor notched 10 blocks for the Vandals.
Allison Hernandez paced Nevada with 12 kills and 11 digs.
BOISE, Idaho ? Boise State defeated Fresno State in four sets (of 28-26, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22) Thursday. With the win, the Broncos improve to 9-17 overall and 5-10 in the WAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-18 overall and 3-12 in conference play.
Boise State out-hit Fresno State .231 to .128 on the match. Both teams finished with 51 kills.
Jeanette Jenkins paced the Broncos with 16 kills, while Alisha King had a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs. Mandy Klein dished out 46 assists and Lauren Hamm tallied 22 digs.
Baylee Platt led the ?Dogs with 22 kills on .367 hitting and a career-high 18 digs. Lacey Gera finished with 17 kills to tie her season high and Kasey Van Grouw added 11 digs. Allanah Munson finished with 43 assists.
RUSTON, La. ? It took five sets, but San Jose State defeated Louisiana Tech 9-25, 25-20, 25-16, 19-25, 15-8 Thursday. With the win, the Spartans improve to
12-15 overall and 7-8 in WAC play. The Lady Techsters fall to 4-22 overall and 0-15 in the conference.
Brianna Amian led a group of four San Jose State players in double-digit kills with 16 to go along with 13 digs. Nia Freeman, Kristal Tsukano and Colleen Burke added 12, 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
KC Clayton paced Louisiana Tech with nine kills. Debora Bolohnini and Taylor Fritz tallied 22 and 20 digs, respectively.
