Denver ? Boise State’s Tasha Harris has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 10-16.
Harris, a senior guard from Longmont, Colo. (Skyline HS), led Boise State to a perfect 2-0 record in the opening week of the women’s basketball regular season. The senior scored a team-high 25 points and helped the Broncos rally from 11 points down to defeat Seattle on Friday, Nov. 14. Sunday, against Portland, she recorded 19 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field, including six during a scoring run midway through the second half that gave BSU breathing room it needed to hold off the Pilots, 68-59. Overall, she averaged 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.5 steals in 33.5 minutes per game. Harris shot 52 percent (13-25) from the floor, 62.5 percent (5-8) from beyond the 3-point arc and converted on 13 of her 17 free-throw attempts. It marks the fourth-time in as many years that Harris has earned Player of the Week honors.
Other nominees included: Lydia Whitehead of Utah State had a team-high 15 rebounds and recorded 12 points for the Aggies in a 64-52 loss to Portland. New Mexico State’s Danisha Corbett averaged 12.5 points in two games including a 21 point outburst in a 78-55 win against UC Irvine. Nevada’s Dellena Criner helped lead the Wolf Pack over Eastern Washington, 69-51, after she notched 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. Natalie White of San Jose State tied her career-best with 27 points in a one-point (69-68) loss to Oregon, she converted on 11-of-17 shoots from the floor. Adrienne Johnson of Louisiana Tech led the Lady Techsters with 22 points, six rebounds and four steals in a 77-36 win over Central Arkansas. Keisha Kanekoa of Hawai?i averaged 9.2 in three games last week, including a 17-point performance against Toledo. Fresno State’s Bailey Amundsen had a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with 17 points in a 97-88 win at Cal-State Bakersfield.
