Four WAC Volleyball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

DENVER ? Four WAC volleyball players have earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Utah State’s Rebecca Anderson and Katie Astle were named to the Academic All-District VIII second team, while Tara Hittle of Hawai?i and Kristal Tsukano of San Jose State were named to the Academic All-District VI third team.

Anderson, a senior middle blocker from Logan, Utah, has a cumulative 3.94 grade-point average in statistics. This is the second-straight year that she has earned the honor and she has twice earned academic all-WAC honors. Anderson currently leads Utah State with 86 total blocks and is averaging 1.32 kills and 0.93 blocks per set.

Astle, a sophomore middle blocker from Sandy, Utah, has a cumulative 3.95 GPA in accounting and also earned academic all-WAC honors in 2007. Astle currently ranks ninth in the WAC with a .273 hitting percentage and is averaging 1.48 kills and 0.82 blocks per set.

Hittle, a senior outside hitter from Colorado Springs, Colo., has a cumulative GPA of 3.52 as an education major and has twice been named academic all-WAC. She ranks second on the seventh-ranked Rainbow Wahine in digs (3.30) and fourth in kills (2.26).

Tsukano, a junior libero from Honolulu, Hawaii, boasts a 3.69 cumulative GPA in biological science and is a two-time academic all-WAC selection. She leads the Spartans and ranks seventh in the WAC with 3.95 digs per set.

In order to be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

District VIII is made up of schools from Arizona, California, Hawai¹i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. District VI is made up of schools from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
