Complete AVCA All-Region Teams
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Hawai?i's Aneli Cubi-Otineru, Jamie Houston and Dani Mafua, and New Mexico State's Krystal Torres were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-West Region team it was announced today.
In addition, Hawai?i's Kanani Danielson was named West Region Freshman of the Year and was an All-West Region honorable mention honoree. Joining her as honorable mention selections were Amber Kaufman of Hawai?i, and Amber Simpson and Lindsey Yon of New Mexico State.
Cubi-Otineru is averaging 2.44 kills and 2.24 digs per set. She currently ranks second in the WAC with 0.35 service aces per set and eighth with a .281 hitting percentage. She has five double-doubles on the season.
WAC Player of the Year Houston earns her third All-West Region selection. She is averaging 4.06 kills per set, good for second in the WAC, and has posted 10 or more kills in 23 matches this season.
Mafua leads the WAC with 11.23 assists per set and has guided the Rainbow Wahine to a .292 hitting percentage this season. With Mafua as the floor general, Hawai?i has hit .300 or better in 17 matches this season. She had 30 or more assists in 20 matches this season, 40 or more assists in 11 matches and 50 or more assists in five matches.
Torres led the Aggies to their first-ever NCAA Tournament win with 4.41 digs per set. She had 10 or more digs in 32 of 34 matches and had 20 or more digs seven times.
Danielson was named West Region Freshman of the Year after ranking sixth in the WAC in hitting percentage (.293), seventh in kills (2.94) and ninth in digs (2.96). She posted eight double-doubles on the season.
With their selections, Cubi-Otineru, Houston, Mafua and Torres are now
eligible for All-America consideration, which will be announced on Dec.
17.
