WAC Women' Basketball Player of the Week Announced

DENVER ? Louisiana Tech forward Shanavia Dowdell has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 8-14. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Dowdell.

The junior from Calera, Ala., led the Lady Techsters to a pair of wins last week after averaging 24.5 points on 78 percent shooting (21-of-27), 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. In her first game back after missing one and a half games due to injury, she scored 29 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked six shots in a 75-46 win over Grambling State. She followed that up by scoring 20 points, grabbing six rebounds and blocking two shots in only 22 minutes of action in a win over Sam Houston State.

Other nominees included: Boise State’s Brittany Moore averaged 15.5 points and 3.0 rebounds as the Broncos went 1-1 last week ... Marinque Arnold of Fresno State averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds on the week ... Utah State’s Danyelle Snelgro scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a double-overtime loss to BYU.
