WAC Teams Collect Four Wins Monday Night

Utah State 66, Utah 64

 

LOGAN, Utah (AP)-- Tai Wesley tipped-in a missed basket with less than a second to play to give Utah State a 66-64 victory over Utah on Monday night.

 

Wesley scored 17 of his 18 points in the second half. Jared Quayle finished with 16 points, and Gary Wilkinson added 14 for the Aggies (9-1).

 

Utah State led 28-22 at the break and took an 11-point advantage midway through the second half. But Utah tied the game with 29 seconds to play on a layup by Carlon Brown.

 

Quayle missed a 16-foot jumper for Utah State, but the Aggies recovered the rebound with 2.4 seconds remaining. Tyler Newbold's short jumper missed, and Wesley tipped in the game winner.

 

Luke Nevill led the Utes (6-5) with 25 points, while Tyler Kepkay added 12 and Brown finished with 11.

 

 

Louisiana Tech 72, TCU 67

 

RUSTON, La. (AP)-- Kyle Gibson scored 23 points to lead Louisiana Tech to a 72-67 victory over Texas Christian on Monday night.

 

Gibson shot 7 for 7 from the field, including 3 for 3 from 3-point range. Jamel Guyton added 15 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Bulldogs (6-6).

 

The Horned Frogs (7-5) were paced by Ronnie Moss, who scored 20. Zvonko Buljan finished with 16 points and five rebounds.

 

After trailing 39-31 at halftime, Moss hit 3-pointer to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 55-53 with 7:24 remaining.

 

But Louisiana Tech used an 8-0 run to take a 69-58 lead with 26 seconds left in the game.

 

The Bulldogs shot 55.6 percent from the field (25-for-45). TCU shot 40.4 percent (23-for-57).

 

 

Boise State 75, San Diego 72

 

SAN DIEGO (AP)-- Mark Sanchez and Anthony Thomas scored 20 points each to lead Boise State to a 75-72 win over San Diego on Monday.

 

Sanchez, who scored 15 points in the second half, had 12 of Boise State's 14 points in one stretch that gave the Broncos a 65-61 lead with 5:53 left in the game.

 

Kurt Cunningham scored consecutive baskets for Boise State (8-3) for a 69-61 lead with 3:06 remaining. San Diego (6-7) then cut the lead to three on three occasions, the final time on Trumaine Johnson's layup with 7.6 seconds left. But after the Toreros forced a turnover, Danny Brown missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

 

Gyno Pomare scored a game-high 22 points for San Diego and Johnson added 16.

 

 

San Jose State 82, San Francisco 76

 

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)-- Adrian Oliver scored 15 of his game-high 31 points in the final six minutes, and San Jose State held off San Francisco 82-76 on Monday night.

 

CJ Webster added 20 points and eight rebounds as the Spartans (5-3) won their third straight despite allowing more than 70 points for the second straight game. Tim Pierce scored 15.

 

Kwame Vaughn scored 22 points to lead the Dons (7-5). Dior Lawhorn added 21, and Manny Quezada had 14.

 

The Spartans led by as many as 16 midway through the second half before the Dons whittled away at the lead, closing to within 63-60 on Lowhorn's slam with just under five minutes to play.

 

 

Creighton 84, Fresno State 65

 

LAS VEGAS (AP)-- Booker Woodfox had 24 points and Kenny Lawson Jr added 15 to lead Creighton to an 84-65 victory over Fresno State at the Las Vegas Classic on Monday night.

 

Creighton (9-2), which opened the second half on a 10-3 run to break a 38-all halftime tie, won its sixth straight.

 

DePaul will play Creighton in the championship game on Tuesday night.

 

The Bluejays led by double digits over the game's final 10 minutes after P'Allen Stinnett and Woodfox hit consecutive 3-pointers to extend the lead to 64-50.

 

Creighton made 20 of 25 free throws and shot 57 percent in the second half. It only had one turnover in the second half and outrebounded Fresno State 36-28.

 

George Paul had 21 points for the Bulldogs (6-6), while Sylvester Seay had 17 and Dwight O'Neil 16.
