Fresno State Bulldogs (2-2, 0-0 WAC)
The Bulldogs went 2-2 last week to open the season, splitting a four-game series with UC Davis ... Fresno State dropped the first two games, 4-2 and 3-1, before taking 7-0 and 6-3 victories ... Danny Muno led the Bulldogs through the series with a .455 hitting performance, connecting on 5-of-11 at bats ... Erik Wetzel and Alan Ahmady each hit .333 ... Todd Sandell and Ryan Overland each hit home runs for the Bulldogs ... Tanner Scheppers had the most impressive performance on the mound, pitching seven shutout innings in a 7-0 win ... Next up for the Bulldogs will be a Feb. 28 matchup at California and a Feb. 29 game at San Diego.
Hawai?i Rainbows (4-3, 0-0 WAC)
Brandon Haislet had a big weekend, batting .538 with a home run, a double, six runs and a stolen base, slugging .923 ... he had three multiple-hit games in the series, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles on Feb. 22, 2-for-3 with three runs on Feb. 23 and 2-for-2 with a home run on Feb. 24 ... Jared Alexander had his second-straight strong outing for the Rainbows, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing just two unearned runs with four strikeouts and no walks, picking up the win ... The ’Bows also got a strong performance out of Evan Zimny, who went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a double vs. San Francisco (Feb. 22).
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (5-0, 0-0 WAC)
Louisiana Tech is off to a 5-0 start after a weekend sweep of in-state foe McNeese State and a pair of wins over Texas-Arlington ...The Bulldogs outscored the Cowboys 44-6 in the series, including a 17-0 rout on Sunday ... it was the first time Tech opened the season with three straight games of 10-plus runs since 2001 ... seven Bulldogs are batting over .400 following the series sweep, led by Matt Combs at .625 (5-for-8, 2 RBI) and Albie Goulder at .556 (5-for-9, 2 HR, 5 RBI) ... Chris Kersten went 5-for-11 on the weekend with 2 home runs and 10 RBI ... as a team, the Bulldogs hit eight home runs in the NcNeese State series, amassed 43 hits and combined for 40 RBI ... six Bulldogs had hits in all three games of the series.
Nevada Wolf Pack (0-3, 0-0 WAC)
Nevada has opened the season with three losses ... The Pack dropped a pair of games to No. 22 UC Irvine at home before taking a 4-3 loss on the road at Stanford ... Jason Rodriguez has led the Pack through the first three games of the season with a .500 batting average ... Rodriguez has six hits with a home run ... Kevin Rodland has also been impressive at the plate with five hits, one run, a triple, and an RBI ... Chris Garcia has opened the season on the mound with seven innings without an earned run ... he also has four strikeouts ... The Wolf Pack now travels to Frisco, Texas to participate in the Southwest Diamond Classic, where it will take on Dallas Baptist, Alabama, and UT-Arlington.
New Mexico State Aggies (2-1, 0-0 WAC)
Bryan Marquez made his first D-I start this weekend and hit an outstanding .467 on opening weekend ... while down, 11-9 in the fourth inning of game three this past weekend, Marquez hit a bomb to right field for his first grand slam of his Aggie career to give the NMSU a 13-11 lead ... Taylor Sturdevant made his first appearances since coming back from surgery, and was able to show some command, while striking out seven batters on the weekend ... The Aggies put up 40 runs in the opening series against New Orleans and hit six home runs, two of which were grand slams. Both of their victories were come from behind wins.
Sacramento State Hornets (1-2, 0-0 WAC)
The Hornets were scheduled to play a season opening four game series against Loyola Marymount, but were unable to complete the final two games due to rain ... The Hornets hit .400 (14-for-35) in their 12-7 season opening victory ... a pair of seniors are hitting above .500, with Taylor Watanabe (.556) and Ryan Blair (.500), and both have recorded at least one extra-base hit ... senior Alvaro Orozco picked up the win on Friday against LMU in his first career relief appearance ... the right-hander started 16 games on the hill last season for the Hornets ... The Hornets dropped a 12-4 decision to San Francisco on Tueday and now head to face No. 1 Arizona for their only non-conference weekend road series of the season.
San Jose State Spartans (4-0, 0-0 WAC)
San Jose State got off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2002 season ... the Spartans are scheduled to play four games in the week ahead ... they defeated Cal State East Bay to improve to 4-0 on Tuesday ... San Jose State will now contest its annual three-game Rivalry Series with South Bay foe Santa Clara, with road games on Friday, February 29, and Sunday, March 2, and a home game on Saturday, March 1 ... a year ago, the Spartans won the Rivalry Series, two games to one, for the first time since the 2003 campaign ... San Jose State has now won nine straight games against Utah dating back to 1998, including three-game home sweeps in 1999, 2007 and 2008.
