Fresno State Bulldogs (10-12, 2-2 WAC)
Fresno State went 2-3 last week on the road ... The Bulldogs opened WAC play in Honolulu, splitting a four-game series with Hawai?i ... The Bulldogs dropped the first two games of the series with UH but rallied to take the next two ... Erik Wetzel continues to lead the Bulldogs at the plate ... Wetzel is batting .371 with 33 hits in 89 at bats ... he also has 22 runs scored, five doubles and nine RBI on the season ... The ace on the mound has been Tanner Scheppers, who has compiled a 1.41 ERA with five appearances in 32 innings of work.
Hawai?i Rainbows (9-15, 2-2 WAC)
The Rainbows recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the opening two games of the 1999 season (Jan. 22, 23 vs. UCLA) that UH posted back-to-back shutouts ... it was also the first time they had back-to-back shutouts in WAC play since April 4 and 5, 1992, against Wyoming ... Jared Alexander also had an amazing pitching performance, with a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts vs. Fresno State (March 20) ... Nicholas Rhodes was also impressive last week, picking up a win over Fresno State in 8.2 innings of work ... Rhodes did not allow a run and struck out 11 batters ... he was named WAC pitcher of the week for his effort.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (13-10, 0-4 WAC)
Tech blew leads of three or more runs in three of four games at Nevada and came away winless in its first conference series of the season ... The Bulldogs have now lost eight of their last nine games at Peccole Park ... Opened the week with a 10-4 victory over Grambling State at home ... Albie Goulder had his first multi-homer game of the season, hitting a pair on Thursday at Nevada ... Chris Kersten also hit a pair of home runs on the week ... Tech had a much better week defensively, committing only three errors in 171 chances ... For the first time all year, the Bulldogs will have more than two days off between games as San Jose State visits for the home conference opener on Friday.
Nevada Wolf Pack (12-8, 4-0 WAC)
Senior second baseman David Ciarlo had his streak of 88 consecutive starts and 113 consecutive games played snapped on Friday due to illness ... He did not play in Saturday’s first game but did play and inning of defense in game two on Saturday ... Nevada concluded its season long 14-game homestand on Saturday and went 11-3 ... After starting the season 0-5 the Pack have gone 12-3 to improve to 12-8 on the season ... Nevada’s 4-0 start in WAC play equals the 2006 squad’s start ... The Wolf Pack has scored in double figures in nine of their 12 wins, only losing once when scoring 10 or more runs ... a 17-10 setback to #22 Oregon State.
NMSU Aggies (9-10, 3-1 WAC)
NMSU outscored San Jose State 55-28 in a four-game conference series this past weekend. In the series finale against the Spartans, NMSU scored all 15 of its runs with two outs ... The Aggies hit a total of nine home runs in two games against New Mexico and four games against SJSU last week, while they allowed only one in the same time period ... Junior Heath Goin picked up his second win in as many weeks with a complete game over San Jose State in game one of a double-header ... He led the Aggies to 12-1 win over the Spartans as NMSU accomplished the first run-rule win of the season.
Sacramento State Hornets (5-14, 1-3 WAC)
The Hornets picked up a 12-6 win over 12th-ranked California last week in Berkeley ... The team then dropped all three games in a three-game series with Gonzaga at home ... Gabe Jacobo continues to lead the team at the plate with a .360 batting average ... Jacobo also tallied 15 runs scored, 27 hits, nine doubles, a triple, three home runs, and 22 RBI ... Jose Ramirez leads the team on the mound with 2-2 record and a 4.23 ERA in 27.2 innings of work ... Ramirez also has 19 strikeouts.
SJSU Spartans (13-8, 4-4 WAC)
SJSU lost its first WAC road series of the season at New Mexico State last weekend, three games to one ... the Spartans conclude a season-long eight-game road swing with a four-game set at Louisiana Tech this weekend ... in 2007, the teams split four meetings, with the Bulldogs winning two out of three during a home series in late April, before the Spartans took an 11-1 decision in seven innings on day one of the WAC Tournament ... SJSU leads the all-time series, 17-14 ... Kyle Bellows equaled a school record on Friday, March 21, by reaching base in his 11th straight plate appearance ... Jason Martin had his hit streak snapped on Saturday at 14 games, the longest by a Spartan player this season.
