DENVER ? New Mexico State’s Josh Stewart and Fresno State’s Taylor Siebert have been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for February 25-March 2.
Stewart, a sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M. (Eldorado HS), finished in a tie for third place at the All-American Golf Classic in Houston, Feb. 25-26. It was his best finish of his career. Stewart shot a 4-over 220 (72-77-71) over the three rounds. His 71 tied for the lowest of the third round. The Aggies finished in fourth place, just six shots behind tournament champion Middle Tennessee State.
Siebert, a junior from Selma, Calif. (Selma HS), won Fresno State’s own Kitahara Invitational, Feb. 25-26. Siebert shot an even-par 144 (73-71) to win her first collegiate title. On the final hole, Siebert made a birdie putt to break a five-way tie for first place. The 18th hole played the hardest of the tournament, and Siebert was the only player to birdie the hole over the two days. The Bulldogs finished in a tie for sixth place with Hawai?i in the tournament, the best finish of the five WAC teams competing in the event.
The other men’s nomination was Idaho senior Ben Weyland.
The other women’s nomination was Boise State junior Mandi Hedberg.
