WAC Baseball Players of the Week Announced

DENVER ? San Jose State first baseman Danny Stienstra and Fresno State pitcher Justin Miller have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 7-13.

 

Stienstra, a freshman from Woodside, Calif. (Saint Francis HS), hit .600 (12-for-20), slugging .800 with a .619 on-base percentage. He led the Spartans in hits (12), runs (7) and RBI (5) through five games last week. Stienstra recorded his first career five-hit game, going a perfect 5-for-5 with a career-high four runs scored and two driven in against Sacramento State. He also hit his first career home run in the game.

 

Miller, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Bakersfield College), went 1-0 last week in seven innings of work, allowing only two hits with 10 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Miller struck out a career-high nine batters in Sunday’s 8-0 win over Louisiana Tech.

 

The other hitter of the week nominations: Fresno State junior Gavin Hedstrom, Hawai?i senior Brandon Haislet, Nevada junior Matt Bowman, New Mexico State senior Joseph Scaperotta, and Sacramento State junior Blake Crosby.  

 

The other pitcher of the week nominations: Hawai?i junior Jared Alexander, Nevada senior Rod Scurry, New Mexico State junior Caleb Hunsaker, Sacramento State junior Jeff Roth, and San Jose State junior Scott Sobczak.
