FRESNO, CA -- The University of Hawai?i took an eight-stroke lead over host Fresno State and San Jose State after the first round of the 18th annual Western Athletic Conference women's golf championship. The Rainbow Wahine shot a total of 301 in the first round at the 6,125-yard, par-72 Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
Hawai?i had four players in the top 11, led by Corie Hou who shot an even-par 72 and is tied for the individual lead with New Mexico State's Suteera Chanachai. In third place, just a stroke out, is Fresno State senior Laura Luethke.
Fresno State and San Jose State are tied for second at 309 while Idaho -- last year's defending champion -- and New Mexico State are tied for fourth at 312. Nevada is in sixth at 316 while Boise State shot a 324.
The three-day tournament continues on Tuesday with second-round tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
