LAST WEEK IN THE WAC 

 

Fresno State Bulldogs (24-16, 13-3 WAC)

The Bulldogs went 4-1 last week ... The team stepped out of conference play, dropping a 10-7 decision at Cal Poly on Apr. 14 before taking a four-game conference series sweep at New Mexico State ... Currently, Fresno State is out-scoring conference opponents 147-56 ... Steve Susdorf is hitting .475 in conference games with two homeruns and 28 RBIs ... Gavin Hedstrom is hitting .476 in his last 10 games won by mercy rule in 5 games ... Susdorf has a team-best 15 game hitting streak snapped in game two of a doubleheader against NMSU last Saturday .... This week, Fresno State will host Santa Clara and San Francisco before heading to Reno to take on Nevada in a four-game series.

 

Hawai?i Rainbows (19-22,11-9 WAC)

The Rainbows went 3-1 at home against WAC foe Nevada last week ... The team has now won 10 of its last 13 games since its win at nationally-ranked Stanford on April 1 ... Brandon Haislet had a good week, batting .462 with five RBI, four runs, and five doubles ... Greg Garcia broke through against Nevada last week, batting .538 with three RBI and three runs ... Matt Daly earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 8.2 innings without giving up a run ... Daly tallied seven strikeouts while holding his opponents to a .074 batting average through his two appearances ... This week, Hawai?i travels to take on Louisiana Tech in a four-game series, starting on April 25 in Ruston.

 

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (15-22, 2-16 WAC)

The Bulldogs look to get back on track this week as the team returns home to host Hawai?i ... The team has spent two straight weeks on the road ... The Bulldogs are in the midst of a school-record11-game losing streak ... Last week, Louisiana Tech dropped four games at San Jose State ... Jericho Jones led the team at the plate with a .462 average, while driving in a run with six hits, a pair of walks, and a double ... Adam Cobb was also impressive at the plate with a .353 average ... Cobb led the team with four RBI last week ... Luke Burnett pitched eight innings, allowing only one earned run with five strikeouts ... Burnett recorded a 1.12 ERA in his eight innings of work.

 

Nevada Wolf Pack (22-17, 9-7 WAC)

The Pack went 1-3 last week at Hawai?i ... The team now holds a 9-7 WAC record and currently sits third in the league standings ... Shaun Kort led the Pack at the plate last week, hitting .429 with six hits, two runs score, a double, and three RBI ... Matt Bowman and Jason Rodriguez each hit .357 in the four-game series against the Rainbows ... Brock Stassi picked up Nevada’s lone win of the week, pitching 7.0 innings with a 2.57 ERA ... Stassi tallied five strikeouts ... This week, Nevada hosts WAC-leader Fresno State in a four-game series in Reno.

 

NMSU Aggies (18-23, 5-11 WAC)

New Mexico State went 2-4 last week at home, defeating Panhandle State in a pair of non-conference games before losing four straight to WAC leader Fresno State ... Bryan Marquez led the Aggies at the plate last week, hitting .400 through six games ... Marquez tallied two RBI, six hits, two doubles, and a home run ... Franky Busani led the Aggies with seven RBI last week ... he also launched three home runs ... Joseph Scaperotta also had three home runs on the week ... Scaperotta currently leads the WAC with 16 home runs this season ... The Aggies utilized 15 pitchers last week ... Jake Wilson and Kyle Hammond picked up wins on the mound last week for New Mexico State.

 

Sacramento State Hornets (19-18, 10-5 WAC)

After going 4-1 on the week in non-conference play, the Hornets travel to USF on Tuesday before returning to WAC play with a weekend series against New Mexico State at Hornet Field ... junior Gabe Jacobo hit .526 on the week, with three home runs and seven RBI ... as a team, the Hornets improved their batting average for the season from .298 to .315, and reduced their ERA from 6.12 to 5.77, marking the first time this season it has been under six runs a game ... The 8-2 Hornets win on Sunday marked the 829th career win for Hornet head coach John Smith, as he passed Hall of Fame volleyball coach Debby Colberg, who retired this season, to become the winningest head coach in Hornet history in terms of total victories.

 

SJSU Spartans (21-16, 12-11 WAC)

San Jose State is in non-conference action this week ... the Spartans, winners of a season-high five, posted their first four-game WAC series sweep at home over Louisiana Tech this past weekend, allowing just eight runs, seven of them earned for a team ERA of 1.85, over 34.0 innings ... after the UH-Hilo games, the Spartans take a first-ever trip to Pullman, Wash., to take on Washington State three times over the weekend ... David Berner earned his second straight winning decision in Friday night’s seven-inning victory over Tech, striking out nine ... freshman Danny Stienstra, last week’s WAC Hitter of the Week, continued his impressive run up the WAC batting chart, going 9-for-15 (.600) with five RBI over the four games to improve his average to .384.
