LAS CRUCES - In the first match of the 2008 WAC Women's Tennis Championship, No. 8 San Jose State defeated No. 9 Louisiana Tech, 4-0. The Spartans advance to the quarterfinals where they will face six-time defending champion, Fresno State later this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Aggie Tennis Center. With the loss Lousiana Tech ends the season at 4-17, while San Jose State improved to 11-9.
Host and fourth-seeded New Mexico State defeated fifth-seeded Hawai'i in the first quarterfinal match of the WAC Women's Tennis Championship. With the win the Aggies move to 12-9, while Hawai'i ends its season at 6-17. The Aggies started strong with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point, and made quick work of the Rainbow Wahine in singles singles to seal the win.
New Mexico State earned singles wins at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions to clinch the match. Stephanie Eusebe defeated Hawai'i's Julia Sandborn, 6-0, 6-1. Anne Fagegaltier beat Chloe Bihag, 6-3, 7-5, while Paulina Zuniga topped Marie Tanaka, 6-3, 6-1.
Third-seeded Nevada advanced to the semifinals of the WAC Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 sweep of six-seeded Idaho. The Wolf Pack will now take on the winner of second-seeded Boise State and seventh-seeded Utah State at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25. With the loss, the Vandals end the season the 16-10. Nevada is now 9-10 heading into the semifinal match.
Nevada was led by No. 72-ranked Maria Mizyuk and No. 116-ranked Caroline Bailly who captured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Mizyuk defeated Idaho's Silvia Irimescu, 6-1, 6-2, while Bailly topped Barbara Maciocha, 6-0, 6-1. Lais Ogata earned the other singles point with a win at the No. 5 position over Idaho's Jana Siwa.
Second-seeded Boise State defeated No. 7 Utah State, 4-0 in the third quarterfinal of the WAC Women's Tennis Championship. The 40th-ranked Broncos are now 19-5, while the Aggies end their season at 7-15. The Broncos will take third-seeded and No. 70 Nevada on Friday, April 25 at 12:00 p.m.
The Broncos made quick work of the Aggies, with wins at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions. Klaudia Wlodarczyk defeated Britney Watts, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 position, while Laura Baum swept Bridgette Strickland, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot. Jana Mackova clinched the match with the final singles victory over Marie Livingston at the No. 6 position, 6-0, 6-1.

Top-seeded Fresno State defeated No. 8 San Jose State, 4-0 in the final quarterfinal of the WAC Women's Tennis Championship. The 19th-ranked Bulldogs are now 18-7, while the Spartans end their season at 11-10. The Bulldogs will take on host and fourth-seeded New Mexico State on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m.
The Bulldogs were led by No. 16-ranked Melanie Gloria and No. 22-ranked Anastasia Petukhova, who earned singles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Gloria topped San Jose State's Ashley Tavita, 6-4, 6-0, while Petukhova took down Amber Silverstone, 6-2, 6-0. Fresno State clinced the match victory when Tinesta Rowe blanked Sanda Hadzisabic, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 spot.
Tomorrow's semifinal action will feature the women's top-four seeds, with third-seeded Nevada taking on second-seeded Boise State at 12:00 p.m. and fourth-seeded New Mexico State looking to knock off six-time defending champion and top-seeded Fresno State at 3:00 p.m.
