DENVER ? Sacramento State infielder/outfielder Gabe Jacobo and San Jose State pitcher Ryan Shopshire have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 31-April 6.

Jacobo, a junior from Tulare, Calif. (Tulare Western HS), hit .421 (8-of-19) and registered five runs, eight hits, eight RBI, and four home runs as Sacramento State went 3-0 in WAC play last week. Jacobo tied a school record with three home runs in a single game against Louisiana Tech last week. He hit home runs in each of his first three at bats in the game, each off a different Bulldog pitcher. He also added a solo home run in Saturday’s win over the Bulldogs. Jacobo recorded a 1.053 slugging percentage and led the league with 20 total bases last week. Jacobo has now helped the Hornets to a school-record seven-straight Division I conference victories.

Shopshire, a junior from Anaheim Hills, Calif. (Orange Coast College), tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead San Jose State to a 4-0 win in game two of a WAC doubleheader with Hawai?i last week. Shopshire (5-0) had separate stretches of eight and 11 consecutive batters retired. With his 10 strikeouts, Shopshire was just one short of a single-game season high by an SJSU pitcher. Shopshire’s win marked San Jose State’s first shutout victory of the season.

The other hitter of the week nominations: Fresno State sophomore Tommy Mendonca; Hawai?i senior Derek DuPree, and Nevada senior Mike Hale.

The other pitcher of the week nominations: Hawai?i junior Jayson Kramer; Nevada freshman Brock Stassi, and Sacramento State junior Jose Ramirez.
