WAC TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES 

 

Fresno State Bulldogs (16-14, 5-3 WAC)

Alan Ahmady has 16 multiple hit games and 11 multiple RBI games ... Erik Wetzel is currently on an 11-game hitting streak. His season best is 13 ... Tuesday’s win over No. 9 Long Beach State was the highest ranked opponent the Bulldogs have beaten this season ... In the last 12 games Steve Susdorf is hitting .405 with four homeruns and 19 RBIs while Ahmady is hitting .444 with three homeruns and 17 RBIs ... After stepping out of WAC play last week, Fresno State resumes its conference slate this week against Louisiana Tech.

 

Hawai?i Rainbows (13-20, 5-7 WAC)

Derek DuPree started all five games as a designated hitter, posting at least a hit in each game ... DuPree then went 11-for-22 in the series at San Jose State, scoring five runs with two RBI ... Jayson Kramer made two appearances last week, allowing just one unearned run, three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Kramer got the win at No. 13 Stanford (Apr. 1), pitching 2.0 perfect innings with two strikeouts ... The Rainbows’ win over SJSU on Apr. 4 was the third-longest of all-time in Rainbow baseball history, lasting four hours and 51 minutes ... It also tied the second-longest game by number of innings, at 15 innings.

 

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (15-14, 2-8 WAC)

Tech finds itself in a deep hole in the WAC standings after a three-game home sweep at the hands of Sacramento State ... Kevin Winn had his best weekend of the season, going 7-for-11 (.636) at the plate, scoring three runs with an on-base percentage of .667 ... Jericho Jones continued his strong hitting in WAC play with a .500 weekend (5-for-10) that included a pair of home runs and four RBI ... Luke Burnett had one of his strongest outings of the year in relief in Saturday’s second game, surrendering only one unearned run on two hits over his four innings pitched ... Tech outhit the Hornets in Saturday’s second game but could not string together enough timely hits to generate runs.

 

Nevada Wolf Pack (17-13, 8-4 WAC)

Designated hitter Terry Walsh hit three home runs in Saturday’s doubleheader with one in game one and two in the second game last week ... Right fielder Mike Hale had the first two home run game of his career with two in Sunday’s 11-1 victory over NMSU ... Freshman Brock Stassi made the first two starts of his college career last week versus UNLV on Tuesday and NMSU on Sunday and won both ... Trailing 5-2 Nevada scored seven times in the bottom of the eighth inning in game three versus NMSU to win 9-5.

 

NMSU Aggies (12-12, 3-1 WAC)

New Mexico State went 2-4 last week, picking up wins against Colorado State-Pueblo and Nevada ... The team hit .254 last week as a team ... Tyler Hardt led the Aggies last week with a .429 average at the plate with nine hits, a pair of doubles, and seven RBI ... On the mound, Tyler Sturdevant and Casey Amundson picked up wins ... Sebastian Vendette led the pitching staff with a 1.42 ERA last week in 6.1 innings of work ... he also led the team with six strikeouts on the week ... Despite its four losses, NMSU did register 40 runs on the week.

 

Sacramento State Hornets (13-15, 8-3 WAC)

After taking a three-game sweep of Louisiana Tech over the weekend, the Hornets have now won seven in a row in WAC play ... The streak marks the school’s largest of the Division I era, breaking the previous mark of six straight, which occurred from March 13 to March 27 of 1998, when the Hornets were members of the Big West ... After hitting 16 home runs in their first 25 games, Hornet bats erupted for 12 home runs in the three-game series over Louisiana Tech ... Four Hornets hit multiple home runs, with Gabe Jacobo leading the way with four long balls, including three in a single game ... The Hornets pitching staff had a season low series ERA of 3.96, allowing 11 earned runs in 25 innings pitched.

 

SJSU Spartans (15-13, 6-9 WAC)

The Spartans went 1-3 last week with its lone win, a 4-0 decision over WAC foe Hawai?i ... Ryan Shopshire picked up SJSU’s win on the mound, throwing a complete-game nine inning four-hit gem ... Shopshire also had 10 strikeouts in the game ... Sonny Garza led the team at the plate last week, recording a .400 average ... Anthony Aguilera and Corey Valine led the team last week with six hits each ... Valine had a team-high five RBI ... San Jose State will host San Francisco on Tuesday before traveling to Sacramento State for a four-game series.
