Four WAC Players Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Team

DENVER? The College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) has announced that four Western Athletic Conference baseball players have been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Team.

New Mexico State’s Christopher Auten, Nevada’s David Ciarlo, Fresno State’s Steve Susdorf, and San Jose State’s Karson Klauer were each received the academic honor.

Auten (Agovra Hills, Calif.) is a junior at NMSU and has a 3.81 cumulative grade point average. He is a finance major and plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in the spring of 2009. Auten has helped the Aggies qualify for their first-ever WAC Tournament this season. He has led the team in hits and doubles, while ranking second on the team with a .359 batting average.

Ciarlo (Vancouver, Wash.), a senior at Nevada, is second on the team and 11th in the WAC with a .357 average. He tops the WAC with four triples and is tied for seventh with a .461 on base percentage. Earlier this season he hit .595 with 15 runs scored, 11 RBI, four doubles, two triples, and two home runs during a career-high 12-game hit streak which is the third-longest on the team this year and tied for the 14th longest in the WAC. Ciarlo is a three time WAC Academic team selection and holds a 3.59 grade point average in criminal justice.

Susdorf (Newhall, Calif.), a senior at Fresno State, holds a 3.7 GPA in civil engineering. He has garnered Academic All-WAC honors three times while helping the Bulldogs to back-to-back WAC championships. He is the 2008 Preseason WAC Player of the Year and was named to the 2007 All-WAC and All-Regional Team. Susdorf is currently batting .344 with eight home runs and 62 RBI. He has a WAC-best 25 doubles.

Klauer (Hollister, Calif.) is a sophomore at San Jose State, where he holds a 3.91 GPA in business administration with a concentration in management. Klauer has started 15 games this season, primarily at second base. He is currently hitting .304 (24-for-79) with 12 runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, eight walks and three stolen bases.
