LAST WEEK IN THE WAC
Fresno State Bulldogs (31-25, 19-9 WAC)
The Bulldogs went 3-2 last week, dropping a non-conference game at Long Beach State before taking three of four at home against San Jose State ... Alan Ahmady led the team at the plate, going 9-for-20 with a .450 batting average last week ... Ahmady had a team-best 10 RBI with a pair of home runs ... Steve Susdorf also had a hot bat, hitting .300 with three doubles last week ... Justin Miller went eight innings on the mound without giving up a run ... Justin Wilson, Holden Sprague, and Sean Bonesteele each picked up wins on the mound last week ... This week, Fresno State wraps up regular season play with a four-game series at Sacramento State.
Hawai?i Rainbows (26-27,18-14 WAC)
The Rainbows went 2-2 last week, dropping the first two games in a four-game series at New Mexico State before picking up the final two ... Jonathan Hee also had an impressive weekend, batting .650 with five RBI, 11 runs, two homers and a double ... Hee went 4-for-5 in the first game, 2-for-4 with two home runs (only the second and third of his career) in the second game, 4-for-6 with five runs in the third game and 3-for-5 with three runs in the finale ... Brandon Haislet picked up WAC hitter of the Week honors after batting .647 with 12 RBI, 11 hits, and eight scored runs ... Sam Spangler went 4.2 innings with a win while only allowing one earned run ... UH will host Utah Valley in non-conference play to wrap up the regular season.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (20-29, 5-21 WAC)
Louisiana Tech went 0-2 last week, dropping a pair of non-conference games to Louisiana-Lafayette and Northwestern State, both on the road ... Chris Kersten led the Bulldogs with a .286 batting average last week, collecting two hits with three RBI and a home run ... John Anderson pitched 6.1 innings without giving up an earned run ... Anderson also had three strikeouts and only gave up three hits ... Louisiana Tech will host UL-Monroe before wrapping up its season with a four-game series at New Mexico State ... Louisiana Tech will play host to the 2008 WAC Tournament, May 22-25.
Nevada Wolf Pack (31-20, 18-10 WAC)
Nevada remains in the race for the regular season championship after taking three of four games from Sacramento State at home last week ... Nevada scored two ninth inning come-from-behind victories against the Hornets in games two and four of the series ... Nevada won all four of its home WAC series this season ... For the first time this season the Pack lost a game as part of a home doubleheader falling in the second game of last Saturday’s doubleheader to Sac State 13-4 ... Matt Bowman and Jason Rodriguez each hit .500 at the plate last week, while pitcher Kyle Howe picked up his fourth complete game win of the season ... Nevada travels to play San Jose State this week, which will wrap up regular season play.
NMSU Aggies (26-29, 13-15 WAC)
New Mexico State went split a four game series with Hawai?i in Las Cruces last week ... Richard Stout led the Aggies at the plate last week, batting .500 with an RBI, two doubles, five hits, and five runs scored ... Joseph Scaperotta had a solid week, belting three home runs with nine RBI and five runs scored ... On the mound, Tyler Sturdevant pitched 8.0 innings with six strikeouts ... Heath Goin went 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts ... New Mexico State will wrap up regular season play this week, hosting Louisiana Tech in a four-game series.
Sacramento State Hornets (21-30, 12-15 WAC)
The Hornets went 1-3 last week in a four game series at Nevada ... The Hornets scored at least one run in the top of the first in each of the four games against Nevada ... In the final three games of the series, Sacramento State scored one run in the first and one run in the second innings ... David Flores and Wes Oberlin each provided two home runs in the series, while Gabe Jacobo and Tim Wheeler each connected on a home run ... Wes Oberlin stole home in Sunday’s series finale, breaking what was at the time a 6-6 tie ... Sacramento State will wrap up regular season play this week, hosting Fresno State in a four-game stint.
SJSU Spartans (27-23, 13-14 WAC)
San Jose State went 2-3 last week, defeating Saint Mary’s 7-5 before dropping three of four games at Fresno State ... Danny Stienstra led the Spartans at the plate with a .455 average, collecting 10 hits, three RBI and a pair of doubles ... Craig Hertler picked up 11 hits in 25 at bats with three runs scored and three doubles ... Alex Sofranac led the team with five RBI ... Max Peterson went 11.0 innings last week with seven strikeouts, picking up a win ... Christopher McNeil also picked up a win on the mound, going 3.1 innings without allowing a run ... McNeil also had three strikeouts ... San Jose State hosts Nevada this week.
