DENVER ? Louisiana Tech outfielder Jericho Jones and San Jose State pitcher Max Peterson have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 12-18.
Jones, a junior from Corinth, Texas (Lake Dallas HS), hit .524 (11-for-21) with 12 RBI, two home runs, two doubles, four runs scored and three stolen bases as Louisiana Tech went 3-2 last week, including a pair of road wins at New Mexico State. Jones started the week going 4-for-4 with five RBI in a 15-5 win over Louisiana-Monroe. He opened play at New Mexico State with a 3-for-5 performance, followed by a 3-for-4, four RBI outing in the series finale. He also pitched in two games last week, striking out five batters in 6.1 innings of work.
Peterson, a sophomore from San Diego, Calif. (San Diego Mesa College/Westview HS), pitched a nine-inning complete game shutout against Nevada, aiding in San Jose State’s four-game series sweep. Peterson allowed only six hits while issuing just one walk. He registered five strikeouts in the 2-0 victory. With the win, Peterson improved his season record to an even 5-5. All five wins have come against WAC opposition, as he is 5-2 in league play with a 3.69 ERA. Peterson has now gone 16.0 innings without giving up an earned run.
