TULSA ? Fresno State junior Melanie Gloria won her opening-round match over Georgia Tech's No. 46-ranked Kristen Flower at the NCAA Tennis Women's Singles Championship, Wednesday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Gloria tallied a dominating 6-3, 6-0 victory over Flower, earning the right to advance into Thursday's second round action.

The victory improves No. 16-ranked Gloria to 28-8 overall on the year, while Flower ends her season at 26-11. Gloria will face UCLA's No. 54-ranked Andrea Remynse, Thursday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m., in second round action. The Bruin defeated Duke's Ellah Nze (6-4, 6-4) in her first round match, extending her record to 38-9 on the season.

Fresno State's other competitor in the singles tournament, No. 22-ranked Anastasia Petukhova, fell to Clemson's No. 2-seeded Ani Mijacika (6-3, 6-1) in her opening round match. Petukhova ends her singles season at 41-7, but will partner with teammate Renata Kucerkova in doubles action today.

In addition to Gloria's singles match against Remynse on Thursday, she will also pair up with teammate Tinesta Row for their first doubles match of the tournament. Gloria and Rowe are currently ranked No. 2 in ITA doubles after compiling a record of 19-6 as the Bulldogs’ No. 1 doubles tandem, tallying 13 wins over doubles teams on ITA Top 40 teams. Last year, Gloria and Rowe fell in the Round of 32 to Tennessee’s Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor. Petukhova and Kucerkova are currently ranked No. 33 in ITA doubles after an impressive 23-4 record as the Bulldogs’ No. 2 doubles tandem.

Gloria and Rowe will open up doubles action against North Carolina’s No. 15-ranked Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand on Thursday, May 22. Grabinski and Marand earned an at-large bid after finishing 11-8 in dual matches, playing primarily at the Tar Heels No. 1 doubles position. Petukhova and Kucerkova will face off with Florida’s No. 8-ranked Megan Alexander and Marrit Boonstra, also on Thursday, May 22. Alexander and Boonstra earned a spot in the 5-8 seed after logging a 15-3 record in dual matches as the Gators No. 1 doubles tandem.
