TULSA ? Fresno State's No. 2-ranked pair of Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe will compete for the 2008 NCAA Tennis Doubles Championship title match, after a dominating win over Notre Dame's No. 3-ranked duo of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft (6-1, 7-5). The Bulldogs' other doubles tandem, No. 33-ranked Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova, fell short in their semifinal match, falling to UCLA's No. 1-ranked Tracey Lin and Riza Zalameda. Gloria and Rowe will now square off with Lin and Zalameda in Monday's title match at 10:00 a.m.

Gloria and Rowe served in commanding fashion, never giving up serve throughout the entire match. After overpowering the Irish in the first set, 6-2, the duos fell into a one-for-one rythm, culminating into a tie at five-all. Notre Dame's Lin and Zalameda had first serve and the opportunity to take the lead, but the Bulldogs broke the Irish's serve to take the 6-5 lead. Gloria then went to the service line and clinched the match for the Bulldogs.

Petukhova and Kucerkova fell to a very strong No. 1-ranked Bruins pair, Lin and Zalameda (6-2, 6-1). The Bulldogs struggled early in the match, finding themselves down 0-2 after UCLA broke serve. Several communication errors caused more trouble for Petukhova and Kucerkova, as UCLA quickly ended the first set, 6-2.  The Bulldogs entered the second set hoping to swing the momentum, but fell short again, 6-1.

Gloria and Rowe will compete for their first-ever NCAA Doubles Championship, but the Bulldogs are no stranger to the title match. Two years ago, Fresno State's Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter competed in the title match, but fell just short of earning the championship.
