Fresno State' Susdorf, Nevada' Ciarlo Named to 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team

Notre Dame, Ind.--Fresno State senior Steve Susdorf and Nevada senior David Ciarlo have been named to the ESPN The Magazine 2008 Academic All-America Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors. Susdorf earned second team honors while Ciarlo was named to the third team.

 

Susdorf, from Newhall, Calif., carries a 3.77 GPA and has graduated with a degree in civil engineering. He is the sixth Bulldog to garner Academic All-America honors. Susdorf had a memorable year as he helped Fresno State to its third straight WAC championship. He earned WAC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP honors. He also became the school’s all-time career RBI leader with 205. He is also tied for third on the school’s career home run list with 36, and is second all-time in doubles with 60.

 

Ciarlo, a native of Vancouver, Wash., is a four-time WAC Academic Team selection and has a 3.59 grade point average in criminal justice. He finished second on the team this season with a .366 batting average and was named to the 2008 WAC All-Tournament team, garnering the honor for the second year in a row. His four triples led the team and the WAC this season. In four seasons, he played in 192 games which ranks ninth in school history. A three-year starter, he had started 88 consecutive games at second base and played in 113 in a row until missing a game in March due to illness.
