Fresno State Bulldogs (28-23, 16-8 WAC)
The Bulldogs went 2-3 last week, falling 7-6 at San Francisco before splitting a four-game series with WAC foe New Mexico State ... Steve Susdorf earned conference hitter of the week honors after batting .381 with four home runs, eight hits, six runs, and a pair of walks last week ... Tanner Scheppers led the Bulldogs on the mound, registering a 2.45 ERA in 7.1 innings of work ... Scheppers had 12 strikeouts with a win and a save ... Alan Ahmady continues to impress at the plate as he is hitting .441 in his last 10 games ... This week, Fresno State travels to play Long Beach State before starting a four-game set at home against San Jose State.
Hawai?i Rainbows (24-25,16-12 WAC)
The Rainbows went 3-1 last week at home against Sacramento State ... The three wins keep the Rainbows in third place in the WAC ... Vinnie Catricala led UH at the plate last week with seven hits (.467), three RBI, three runs, and a pair of walks ... Jeff Van Doornum and Jonathan Hee were also impressive at the plate, recording .400 batting averages ... On the mound, Sam Spangler went 4.0 innings without giving up a run ... Nicholas Rhodes picked up a win for UH, hurling a complete game nine-inning game while only giving up one run ... The Rainbows travel to Las Cruces this week to take on New Mexico State in a four-game series.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (20-27, 5-21 WAC)
Louisiana Tech got a pair of wins this week, but three losses in conference play, coupled with wins by New Mexico State, officially eliminated the Bulldogs from WAC Tournament contention ...Tech got great pitching performances from Andrew Lassere and Landon Braud in Sunday’s doubleheader as both had career-long outings, but both were hard-luck losers in their respective contests ... Albie Goulder batted .429 on the week with a pair of home runs...Seven seniors were honored prior to Sunday’s doubleheader as Landon Braud, Drew Bunting, Adam Cobb, Albie Goulder, Alan Knotts, Andrew Lassere and Aaron Lorio played their final WAC games at J.C. Love Field.
Nevada Wolf Pack (28-19, 15-9 WAC)
Nevada won its first road series of the season taking 3-of-4 at Louisiana Tech ... The Pack have now won six of its last eight WAC games, taking 3-of-4 each of the last two weekends ... Three times this season Wolf Pack pitchers have combined to pitch shutouts and four total as Rod Scurry pitched a complete game 1-0 shutout of Utah Valley ... Jason Rodriguez led the Pack at the plate last week, hitting .375 with six hits and a pair of runs ... Derek Achelpohl was awarded WAC pitcher of the week honors after pitching 8.2 innings without giving up a run ... Nevada will host Sacramento State in a four-game series this week.
NMSU Aggies (24-27, 11-13 WAC)
New Mexico State went 2-2 last week, splitting a four-game series at league-leader Fresno State ... the team clinched a spot in this year’s WAC Tournament in Ruston, marking the first time that NMSU will participate in the tournament ... Last week, Joe Leghorn led the Aggies at the plate with a .385 average with five hits ... Marcus Quade batted .375 with a team-best six RBI and three home runs ... Heath Goin picked up a win on the mound in 7.1 innings of work... Goin allowed only one earned run and gave up just six hits ... Sevastien Vendette also picked up a win on the mound ... This week, New Mexico State will host Hawai?i in a four-game set, starting on Thursday.
Sacramento State Hornets (20-27, 11-12 WAC)
The Hornets went 1-4 on the road last week, dropping a non-conference game to Santa Clara before going 1-3 at Hawai?i ... David Flores hit .450 at the plate last week, collecting nine hits, two doubles, four runs, and two RBI ... Wes Oberlin hit .364 with eight hits, five RBI, two home runs, two doubles, and four runs ... Brian Smith led the team on the mound, picking up a victory in 7.0 innings of work ... Smith gave up just one earned run ... he picked up three strikeouts ... This week, Sacramento State travels to play a four-game set against Nevada.
SJSU Spartans (25-20, 12-11 WAC)
San Jose State closes a nine-game non-conference stretch at Saint Mary’s College on Tuesday afternoon, May 6 ... the Spartans suffered a two-game sweep of a home-and-home series with third-ranked area rival Stanford over the weekend, leading 6-1 with just four more outs needed at home in Sunday’s meeting ... the Spartans finally resume WAC play with a four-game series at rival Fresno State, May 9-11, having lost nine straight in the series ... San Jose State clinched a third straight trip to the WAC Tournament following an 8-4 home loss by Louisiana Tech to Nevada on Saturday, May 3 ... against Stanford, Spartan starting pitchers David Berner and Scott Sobczak were perfect through three innings in each game.
