Boise State and Utah State Remain Unbeaten in WAC Play

Utah State 77, New Mexico State 67

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP)-- Gary Wilkinson had 22 points and a career-high 14 rebounds Saturday night as Utah State beat New Mexico State 77-67 and pushed its winning streak to 10 games.

Utah State (15-1, 3-0 Western Athletic Conference) led 38-34 at halftime and 54-44 with 11 minutes remaining after an 8-0 run sparked by a 3-point play from Wilkinson.

New Mexico State (8-9, 2-2) closed to 54-51 on Jahmar Young's 3-pointer with 9 minutes left before the visiting Aggies pulled away.

Young finished with 18 points while Wendell McKines and Troy Gillenwater each added 11.

Boise State 54, Hawai?i 49

BOISE, Idaho (AP)-- Anthony Thomas scored 9 of Boise State’s last 11 points, including a key 3-pointer with 2:10 left, as the Broncos held on for a 54-49 victory over Hawai?i on Saturday night.

Hawai?i (9-7, 1-3 WAC) held its only lead of the game, 44-43, with 6:50 remaining. That's when Thomas went on a tear with two successive layups, a 3-pointer, and another field goal to put Boise State (11-3, 3-0) in control of the game.

Thomas finished with a team-high 13 points, followed by Paul Noonan with 10.

The Rainbow Warriors were led by Roderick Fleming with 17 points.

Boise State held Hawaii without a field goal for the last 3:35 of the first half and the first 5:30 minutes of the second half while building a 38-29 lead.

Neither team shot well from the field. Boise State hit 35 percent while Hawaii could manage only 33 percent.

Nevada 67, Louisiana Tech 64

RUSTON, La. (AP)-- Luke Babbitt hit a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to lift Nevada to a 67-64 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

Nevada led 61-51 on a Dario Hunt layup with 3:16 left, but Louisiana Tech went on a 10-4 run during the next 3 minutes to tie the score at 64-64 on a three-point play by Magnum Rolle with 16 seconds remaining.

But Louisiana Tech never got the ball back, and Nevada's timeout with 12 seconds left set the stage for Babbitt's game winner.

Brandon Fields led the Wolf Pack (9-7, 2-1 Western Athletic Conference) with 17 points, Babbitt finished with 15 and Malik Cooke added 11. Babbitt finished the game shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

Kyle Gibson's 18 points led four players in double-figure scoring for the Bulldogs (7-10, 1-3), who also got 13 points from Rolle and Jamel Guyton and Kenneth Cooper added 12 apiece.

San Jose State 71, Fresno State 68

FRESNO, Calif. (AP)-- C.J. Webster scored a career-high 23 points, including the go-ahead free throws in overtime, as San Jose State outlasted Fresno State 71-68 on Saturday night.

After Webster's free throws put San Jose State (7-7, 1-3) ahead 69-68 with 34 seconds left, the Bulldogs missed three 3-pointers in the closing seconds. Chris Oakes, who had 14 points, hit two free throws with 18 seconds remaining to seal the Spartans' first Western Athletic Conference victory.

Dwight O'Neil scored a career-high 22 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists for Fresno State (7-9, 0-2), but missed an off-balance jumper at the buzzer that would've sent the game into double overtime.

Paul George added 18 points for the Bulldogs, who scored just 19 second-half points and frittered away a six-point lead with 4:18 left in regulation.

It was San Jose State's first-ever victory at the Save Mart Center, which opened in 2003, and the Spartans' first win in Fresno since Dec. 4, 1993.

Trailing 63-60, San Jose State forced overtime when Justin Graham make the first of two free throws with 15 seconds left. Graham missed the second, but Webster grabbed the offensive rebound and slipped in for the layup with seven seconds left.

The Bulldogs raced downcourt, but O'Neil missed a hurried three-pointer at the buzzer.

Webster, whose previous career high of 22 points came Monday against New Mexico State, also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds and six assists. Robert Owens added 13 points, and Tyler Graham had 11 points and eight assists.

Fresno State lost despite leading by as many as 11 points early in the second half and shooting 54.3 percent in regulation.

The Bulldogs were held without a field goal in the final 4:18 of regulation and went 3:45 without scoring down the stretch.

It was quite a turnaround from the first half, when Fresno State shot 64.3 percent to fashion a nine-point halftime lead. O'Neil had 15 points and three assists to spark a late surge.

After making his third three-pointer of the half, O'Neil drove the lane, hung in the air and rolled in layup to put the Bulldogs ahead 42-35. San Jose State turned the ball over, and O'Neil fed Daniel Webster underneath with 35 seconds left.

There were 12 ties and eight lead changes in the game. San Jose State dominated the interior, evidenced by a 44-30 edge in points scored in the paint.
