Fresno State Defeats Louisiana Tech, NMSU Beats SJSU

RUSTON, La. - Fresno State used a 30-6 run early in the second half to blow open a close game as the Bulldogs defeated Louisiana Tech 78-53 Friday night to hand the Techsters just their sixth WAC home loss in program history.

The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the floor while Louisiana Tech was held to 31 percent shooting. Fresno State also hit 10 three-pointers on 21 attempts and had 19 assists in the game. Both teams pulled down 41 rebounds with Tech grabbing 17 offensive boards.

Fresno State had balanced scoring as Hayley Munro and Marnique Arnold each had 12 points, while Ashley Walker had 11 points off the bench. Munro led the team in rebounding with eight.

Adrienne Johnson led Tech with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Shanavia Dowdell scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in only 19 minutes of action.


LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State (5-12, 1-2 WAC) used solid free throw shooting and an early second half run to snap the eight-game loosing streak with a 68-51 win over San Jose State (2-14, 1-2) Friday night in the Pan American Center.

The Aggies shot 84 percent (21-of-25) from the free-throw line and opened the second half with a 15-3 run that ended up securing the victory.  The Crimson and White also had a season-high 10 blocks and 13 steals.

San Jose State shot 36 percent from the field, but just 57 percent (4-of-7) from the charity stripe, where it took 17 fewer free throws than NMSU. The Spartans were also out-rebounded 40-33.

Madison Spence led all scores with 18 points, marking her 14th game of the season in double-digits. Danisha Corbett added 14 points, while Niki Holt recorded a career-high 13 rebounds and tied her personal best with five blocks. Kaitlyn Soto added 10 points in 14 minutes of play, while sophomore forward Tabytha Wampler scored nine points and tied her career-high four steals.

Chasity Shavers scored 13 points off the bench to lead the Spartans, while Kelly Blair added 12 points on a career high four three-pointers.
