HONOLULU, Hawaii ? Nevada remained undefeated in WAC play and won its
fourth straight game Saturday night, defeating Hawai`i 69-50. The
Pack’s 4-0 start in WAC play is its best since joining in the
conference in 2000.
With the win, Nevada improves to 10-7 overall and 4-0 in the WAC, while Hawai`i falls to 3-14 overall and 0-4 in the WAC.
With 16:59 left in the game, Brandi Jones hit a three-pointer to become
the ninth player in Nevada history to score 1,000 career points. Jones
also is the seventh player in program history to record 1,000 career
points and 500 career rebounds.
The Pack shot 38 percent (20-of-53) from the floor on the game, while
Hawai?i connected on 36 percent. Nevada also out-rebounded Hawai`i
45-23.
Dellena Criner led Nevada with 12 points, while Jones added 11. Cherlanda Franklin grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Keisha Kanekoa paced the Rainbow Wahine with 13 points.
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State snapped a two-game losing streak with a 58-44 win over Boise State, giving the Aggies their first win against the Broncos since joining the WAC.
With the win, USU improves to 8-10 overall and 2-3 in the WAC, while Boise State falls to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The last time that USU defeated Boise State was during the 1978-79 season.
The Broncos shot 33 percent (19-of-57) from the field and 17 percent (2-of-12) from three-point range on the game, compared to the 39 and 50 percent, respectively, of Utah State. The Aggies also out-rebounded the Broncos 42-33 and forced 18 Boise State turnovers.
The Aggies were led by Ana Pares with 20 points. Pares has now scored in double figures nine-straight times and has scored at least 20 points three times this season. Nicole Johnson and Lydia Whitehead added 10 and nine boards, respectively.
Coutney VanBrocklin led Boise State with 14 points, while Janie Bos posted a double-double - 10 points and 10 rebounds.
