Boise State 63, New Mexico State 48
BOISE, Idaho ? Brittany Moore and Courtney VanBrocklin combined for 25 points as Boise State defeated New Mexico State 63-48 Friday night in Taco Bell Arena.
The win extends Boise State’s home win streak against WAC members to 13 straight as the Broncos improved to 10-9 overall and 3-2 in league. The loss drops NMSU to 6-13 on the year and 2-3 in WAC action.
Boise State finished the game shooting 40 percent (25-of-63) from the floor, 24 percent (4-of-17) from three-point range and 69 percent (9-of-13) from the free throw line. NMSU hit 33 percent (20-of-60) from the court and 50 percent (8-of-16) from the charity stripe, but went 0-for-11 from downtown. Boise State also out-rebounded NMSU 43-40.
Moore led the Broncos in scoring with a team-best 13 points to go with three rebounds. VanBrocklin recorded 12 points, a team-high eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Janie Bos finished the game with 11 points and six rebounds, while Marisa Stotler added 10 points and six boards.
Kaitlyn Soto led New Mexico State with 11 points. Madison Spence finished with nine points, all in the second half. Tabytha Wamper and Tyshae Walton each added eight points, while Niki Holt turned in a team-best 10 rebounds to go with six points.
Utah State 64, San Jose State 54
SAN JOSE, Calif. ? Utah State defeated San Jose State 64-54 Friday night at the Events Center. With the win, USU improves to 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the WAC. San Jose State falls to 2-16 overall, 1-4 in conference action. The ninth win ties the Aggies' win total from a year ago, as USU was 9-20 last season.
USU shot 44 percent from the field (24-of-55), while making 2-of-10 three pointers (20 percent). The Aggies shot 70 pecent from the free throw line (14-of-20). The Spartans shot 41 percent (21-of-51) for the game, while shooting a stellar 50 percent from three-point range (8-of-16). SJSU shot only 50 percent from the charity stripe (4-of-8).
Danyelle Snelgro and Ana Pares both scored a game-high 15 points, while Lydia Whitehead and Alice Coddington scored 12 points each. Nicole Johnson led the team with nine boards.
Kelly Blair led the Spartans with 14 points, followed by Shaunna Ridge and Ashley Brown with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Sayja Sumler pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
Fresno State 71, Hawai?i 45
HONOLULU, Hawai?i ? Fresno State improved to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in WAC after beating Hawai'i 71-45 at the Stan Sheriff Center Friday night. Hawai'i dropped to 3-15 and 0-5 in conference.
Fresno State shot 40 percent from the field, while the Rainbow Wahine shot 38 percent. The Bulldogs out-rebounded Hawai'i 36-33. The Bulldog defense also forced 27 Rainbow Wahine turnovers.
Ashley Walker came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points and grab five rebounds. Jaleesa Ross had 15 points, while Hayley Munro had 14 points, eight rebounds and a career-high nine assists.
Megan Tinnin paced Hawai?i with 14 points.
Louisiana Tech 67, Idaho 63 (OT)
MOSCOW, Idaho ? Tiawana Pringle tallied her first career double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, as Louisiana Tech defeated Idaho 67-63 in overtime Friday.
Louisiana Tech connected on 40 percent from the field (28-of-70), 35 percent from downtown (7-of-20) and 50 percent from the free throw line (4-of-8). Idaho, meanwhile, made 38 percent of its shots from the field (21-of-56), 28 percent from three-point range (5-of-18) and 80 percent from the charity stripe (16-of-20). The Techsters also out-rebounded the Vandals 44-37.
Adrienne Jones added 18 points, while Shanavia Dowdell recorded her WAC-leading 11th double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Pringle also added six assists.
Yinka Olorunnife led Idaho with 21 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Shaena Kuehu scored 12 points and Derisa Taleni finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
