DENVER ? Boise State’s Amber Boucher and Northern Arizona’s Megan Collier have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 19-25.
Boucher, a freshman from Keizer, Ore. (McNary HS), powered the Broncos to a 175-11 win against in-state rival Idaho, their first win against the Vandals in the program’s three-year history. The freshman swam the butterfly leg of Boise State’s record-breaking 200 medley relay. She also had first-place finishes in the 50 free (24.01) and the 100 fly (57.26). She was nearly two and a half seconds ahead of her closest competitor in the 100 fly. Her times were good for eighth and ninth in the WAC, respectively. This marks the first time this second time this season a BSU swimmer has earned the weekly award.
Collier, a sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz. (Sunnyslope HS), was the top diver over the weekend as she helped lead NAU over San Diego, 176-102. Collier won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events with scores of 285.90 and 286.65. Her 1-meter mark is a career-best. She also earned a third-place finish on the 1-meter board in a diving competition at USC just one day prior to the dual meet. This is the first WAC Athlete of the week honor for Collier and the third one of the year for a NAU diver.
Other swimming nominees included: San Jose State’s Lauren Mar, Northern Arizona’s Meredith Egloria and Idaho’s Elizabeth Jagusch.
