Utah State 72, Nevada 61
LOGAN, Utah (AP)-- Tai Wesley scored 22 points, 17 of them in the second half, to lead Utah State past Nevada 72-61 Thursday night.
Stavon Williams scored 15 for the Aggies (20-1, 8-0 Western Athletic Conference), and Jared Quayle added 14.
The Wolf Pack (12-8, 5-2) were paced by Armon Johnson with 18 points. Luke Babbitt added 17 and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Brandon Fields had 11 points for Nevada.
After trailing by four points at halftime, Utah State took its first lead of the game, 36-34, when Wesley scored the first six points of the second half. Wesley would eventually score the first 11 points for the Aggies, though the Wolf Pack would again briefly take the lead.
Later in the half, Williams hit eight consecutive points to help Utah State to a 60-45 lead with 5:35 to play. The Aggies dropped in 11 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win.
Idaho 63, Boise State 59
MOSCOW, Idaho (Sports Network)--Mac Hopson netted a game-best 20 points and dolled out eight assists to pace the Idaho Vandals in a 63-59 win over the Boise State Broncos in Western Athletic Conference action at the Cowan Spectrum in Moscow.
Hopson drilled 7-of-15 shots from the floor and racked up three steals, as Idaho (10-10, 4-3 WAC) snapped a 14-game losing streak in the series with Boise State. Brandon Wiley posted 12 points and nine boards, while Kashif Watson notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Mark Sanchez headed the charge for Boise State (14-6, 5-3) with a double- double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jamar Greene turned in 16 points and six boards, and Paul Noonan had 11 points in the setback.
The Vandals made 50 percent of their field goal tries in the first frame and that helped them to open a 29-26 lead at the intermission.
Idaho kept control in the second half by shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and it was able to hang on for the four-point win despite going just 8-of-17 at the foul line.
Boise State wasn't nearly as successful hitting shots from the field, making just 36.8 percent of its chances.
New Mexico State 89, San Jose State 81
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP)-- Jahmar Young hit four 3-point buckets and scored 32 points to lead New Mexico State to an 89-81 win against San Jose State on Thursday.
NMSU (10-11, 4-4 Western Athletic Conference) marked their ninth consecutive series victory against the Spartans (9-10, 3-5 WAC).
In a late surge by the Spartans, Tim Pierce hit four field goals in a 9-0 run by San Jose State to take the lead at 72-68 before the Spartan freshman added a lay up and drew a foul to capture a 75-70 advantage with five minutes left to play.
Young followed with a 3-pointer and a lay up, and with 3:50 remaining Troy Gillenwater hit a 2-point bucket to tie the game at 77-77.
Jonathan Gibson put NMSU ahead 79-77 with a pair of foul shots, and a San Jose State turnover opened the door for Gillenwater to add one more point for an 80-77 lead.
Gibson sealed the victory with a 3-point shot that fell with three seconds on the shot clock and 53 seconds in regulation to make the score 83-77.
In the final seconds, Young and Gillenwater contributed a combined six free throws for the Aggies, and Pierce hit two more field goals to bring his offensive total to 15 points.
Gillenwater finished the night with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Gibson ended with 12 points.
Adrian Oliver dominated the Spartan offense as he went 13-for-14 from the foul line and 7-of-17 from the field to finish with 28 points.
Hawai?i 54, Louisiana Tech 53
RUSTON, La. (AP)-- Petras Balocka's layup at the buzzer propelled Hawaii to a 54-53 win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs blew a five-point halftime lead, as the Warriors came out of the break on a 13-3 run. The Warriors (10-10, 2-6 Western Athletic Conference) maintained the lead until David Jackson hit two free throws, tying the game at 50 with 26 seconds left.
A pair of foul shots by Hiram Thompson put Hawaii ahead by two, but Jamel Guyton's late 3-pointer put the Bulldogs (8-13, 2-6) up 53-52. After a timeout, Hawaii's Bill Hamis pulled up for the winning jumper and missed. Balocka was there for the rebound and game-winner.
Roderick Flemings led the Warriors with 17 points, Amis had 14 and Balocka finished with 10.
Guyton scored 14 to lead the Bulldogs.
The Warriors have beaten the Bulldogs for their only two WAC wins this season.
