Boise State Opens WAC Play with 60-56 Win at Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho ? Freshman Heather Pilcher scored 16 points to lead Boise State to a 60-56 road victory over Idaho in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both schools  Saturday in Moscow, Idaho.

The Broncos opened defense of their 2008 WAC title by stretching their league win streak to a school record 15 games. Boise State never trailed during the game and led by as many as 14 points as it claimed its fifth-consecutive win over the Vandals.

Boise State shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the floor, 36 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc and 71 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line. Idaho countered with 37 percent (21-of-57) from the court, 31 percent (8-of-26) from three-point range and 43 percent (6-of-14) from the charity stripe. The Broncos out-rebounded the Vandals 42-35.

Pilcher finished the game with a game-high 16 points to go with four rebounds and a career-high five steals. Jamia Malone finished with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Janie Bos recorded 10 points and seven boards. Jenna Galassi pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Shaena-Lyn Kuehu led Idaho with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Yinka Olorunnife finished with 13 points and nine boards.

The win improves Boise State to 8-7 overall and 1-0 in  WAC play. Idaho falls to 3-9 on the season and 0-1 in league.
