Fresno State, Idaho Pick Up WAC Wins

FRESNO, Calif. - On a night when the shooting was off, Fresno State pulled out a 62-52 victory over Boise State in the WAC opener on Monday evening at the Save Mart Center.

The win upped Fresno State's record to 10-4 and it is the fifth straight year the Bulldogs have won their conference opener. Boise State dropped to 8-8 and 1-1 in league play.

The Bulldogs shot 33 percent from the field, compared to the 28 percent of the Broncos. Fresno State also out-rebounded Boise State 48-43.  
 
Bailey Amundsen led Fresno State with 17 points, while Hayley Munro had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jaleesa Ross had 11 rebounds while Marnique Arnold added eight boards.

Freshman Heather Pilcher scored a career-high 20 points for Boise State in the loss. Jenna Galassi added 11 points.


MOSCOW, Idaho ? Idaho junior guard Derisa Taleni scored a WAC season-high 31 points to pave the way for a 71-63 come-from-behind victory over Utah State Monday night.

The Vandals move to 4-9 on the season and 1-1 in the WAC, while Utah State slips to 6-8 and 0-1 in the WAC.

For the game, the Vandals shot 40 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range, while the Aggies shot 46 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc. Idaho out-rebounded Utah State 37-32 and tied its season low with nine turnovers.

Taleni, who had hit only eight of her previous 57 three-point attempts on the season, nailed 5-of-6 (.833) to give her the WAC’s second-best three-point performance of the year. Shaena Kuehu added 11 points for the Vandals, while Yinka Olorunnife had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Ana Pares led the Aggies with 15 points, while Shawnta Pope had a career-high 14. Lydia Whitehead was the third Aggie to score in double figures, adding 13 points and seven rebounds.
