Utah State 70, Idaho 61
LOGAN, Utah -- Jared Quayle scored 18 points and Gary Wilkinson added 17 to lead Utah State past Idaho 70-61 Monday night.
Wilkinson also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Aggies (13-1, 1-0 Western Athletic Conference).
Pooh Williams added 11.
Idaho pulled to a 54-51 score with 7:11 to play when Kashif Watson made a driving layup, but USU dropped in nine free throws in the final minutes to keep the lead.
Although USU had 17 turnovers and the Vandals gained 12 steals against them, the Aggies had 36 rebounds to the visitors' 19.
USU used an 18-4 run early in the first half to take a 30-14 lead, as they shot 5-of-6 from the 3-point line. But the Vandals went on a 10-1 run to stay close. USU led at halftime 40-34.
Watson led the Vandals (7-8, 1-1 WAC) in scoring with 15. Marvin Jefferson and Mac Hopson had 12.
New Mexico State 75, San Jose State 73
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Freshman Hamidu Rahman sank a pair of free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining to lift New Mexico State past San Jose State 75-73 on Monday night.
Rahman, who scored 13 points in a season-high 28 minutes, recorded his third double-digit scoring game, all within his last six appearances. He also added seven rebounds, one off his season high.
Wendell McKines, a native of nearby Oakland, scored a career-high 21 points for the Aggies (8-7, 2-0 WAC), who beat the Spartans for the eighth straight time. Jahmar Young added 17 points while Jonathan Gibson scored all 11 of his points in the second half.
C.J. Webster scored a career-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting and had nine rebounds for the Spartans (6-6, 0-2), who lost their third in four games. Adrian Oliver had 15 and Justin Graham scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half.
The Aggies have won 22 of its past 25 meetings overall with San Jose State, which last won a game in the series in 1996.
Webster made two foul shots to give San Jose State a one-point edge with just under two minutes remaining.
Gibson made one of two free throws to make it 73-all with 46 seconds left, setting up the game-winning foul shots.
The Aggies, who lead the WAC in 3-point field goal percentage, shot nearly 38 percent from long range against the conference's top 3-point field goal percentage defensive leader. The Spartans have allowed 13 3-pointers in their past two games.
San Jose State held a 39-37 lead at halftime.
Hawai?i 65, Louisiana Tech 64
HONOLULU ? (Sports Network) A jumper by Bill Amis in the final seconds proved to be the difference as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors posted a 65-64 win against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Western Athletic Conference action at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Amis finished with a game-high 17 points for the Warriors (9-5, 1-1 WAC) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. Paul Campbell, Roderick Flemings and Adhar Mayen all tallied 13 points, the former also clearing a game-high 12 rebounds and blocking five shots as well.
The Bulldogs (7-8, 1-1) were paced by Kenneth Cooper and his 14 points to go along with seven boards, followed by David Jackson and Magnum Rolle with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Hawaii, which led by as many as 13 points in the first half, shot a sizzling 65.4 percent from the field in the frame, yet led by just two points at the break, 37-35.
In the second half the Warriors cooled to a mere 39.3 percent shooting from the floor but still managed to pull out the win thanks to Amis.
LaTech converted 6-of-14 from three-point range on the night, but hit on only 6-of-11 at the charity stripe.
