DENVER – San Jose State’s Roxy Kamal and New Mexico State’s Katie Graul have been named Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 5-11.
Kamal, a senior forward from San Jose, Calif. (Presentation HS), helped the Spartans to a 1-0-1 record. Kamal scored what proved to be the game-winner in a 3-1 defeat of Louisiana Tech. She then assisted the 77th-minute insurance goal to help SJSU to the victory. Overall, Kamal recorded one goal and one assist for three points.
Graul, a senior goalkeeper from San Clemente, Calif. (Loyola Marymount), posted two shutouts in her first two career WAC road matches. Against Fresno State, Graul collected six saves in NM State’s 2-0 victory. Graul then held San Jose State scoreless through 110 minutes and tallied six saves to record the 0-0 double-overtime tie.
Other offensive nominees included: Boise State sophomore midfielder Brandy Hickcox; Fresno State sophomore midfielder Laura Dodd; Nevada sophomore midfielder Ellie Stott; and Utah State senior forward Erin Salmon.
Other defensive nominees included: Boise State sophomore goalkeeper Liz Ruiz; Fresno State sophomore defender Kendall VanDine; Nevada junior goalkeeper Marie Cove; San Jose State junior goalkeeper Nina Butera; and Utah State freshman defender Natalie Norris.
