Boise State Broncos
The Broncos did not compete last week ... the team is back in action this week at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday.
Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State was one of many WAC squads not to compete last week as the team preps for this week’s meet in Santa Clara, Calif. ... the Bulldogs will compete Saturday at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.
Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine
Hawai‘i had last week off ... the team will be back in action this week at the BYU-Hawai‘i Invitational in La’ie, O’ahu.
Idaho Vandals
The Vandals took last week off ... the team is now ready to host the Vandal Cross Country Jamboree this Saturday in Moscow.
Louisiana Tech
Josh Slocum paced Louisiana Tech with a time of 27:37 and a 26th place finish as the Bulldogs placed eighth at the Watson Ford Invitational at the Choctaw Trails on the campus of Mississippi College Saturday ... Slocum’s time gave him the top Bulldog time for the third time in four races this season and is his second-best 8k time of the season ... Matt Wolfe, placing second among the Bulldog runners, finished 38th overall with a time of 28:10 ... Jack Ramstad placed 40th at the meet with a time of 28:13 with Kyle Davis placing 46th and Jermaine Morris finishing 50th to round out the top five runners for Louisiana Tech.
Nevada Wolf Pack
Nevada has placed second at two meets this year – both home meets … at the WAC Preview Open the team had four runners in the top 10 … Janet Martinez, who finished seventh overall, was competing in her first meet of the year … freshman Katarina Ratkowiak placed fourth overall and established a 5K PR of 20:23 … Natalia Jarawka also finished in the top 10 taking 10th overall.
New Mexico State Aggies
Freshman Emma Hamilton was NM State’s top female finisher in the Dual in the Desert … she ran a time of 20:17 overall, good for sixth place … behind Hamilton was sophomore April Lewis in ninth place for the Aggies … following Lewis across the finish was sophomore Jessica Payne in 22 minutes and 12 second … against the nationally ranked Lobos, sophomore Victor Sanchez led the Aggies for a sixth place, which is his best finish on the season for NM State … James Hart followed Sanchez to the finish in 29 minutes and 38 seconds. Junior Austin Brackeen claimed 11th place in the dual, while sophomores Chris Galli and Matt Harrigian followed in the next two spots.
San Jose State Spartans
SJSU’s men finished 10th out of the 12 teams in the 2009 San Francisco State Invitational ... Luke Galvan (47), Antonio Cantu (88), Alex Esparza (92), Carlos Chavez (95), and Jonathan Gragert (98) were the five scorers for the Spartans, totaling 276 points ... Galvan ran the 8K course through Speedway Meadows in 27:08.2, and was San Jose State’s top finisher. Sophomore Antonio Cantu (28:30.1) followed with an 88th place finish for San Jose State ... the SJSU women finished fourth out of 16 teams at the San Francisco State Invitational ... the scorers for the Spartans: Nisha Richardson (19), Kate Lambdin (32), Arely Marquez (39), Meaghan Vinton (52), and Nadya Bishton (54).
Utah State Aggies
Utah State did not compete last week ... the team returns to the course this week at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif. ... the meet is set for Saturday morning.
WAC NOTES
NEVADA’S BURKE NAMED CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nevada’s Jordan Burke has been named the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 5-11.
Burke, a sophomore from Auburn, Calif. (Placer HS), finished second overall at the 5K WAC Preview Open hosted by Nevada at Rancho San Rafael Park. Burke and top finisher Kristina Holtz of Sacramento State clocked identical times of 20:05 as Hotlz just edged Burke at the finish line. The race was Burke’s first meet since the Pack’s season-opening meet on Sept. 4.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2009 WAC Cross Country Championship travels to Reno, Nevada. This year’s championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Rancho San Rafael Park. Utah State swept both the men’s and women’s championships last year.

NCAA REGIONALS
The 2009 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country, Saturday, Nov. 14. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Eugene, Ore. (University of Oregon). The Mountain Region will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. (University of New Mexico), while Louisiana Tech will be the lone team in the South Central Regional (Baylor) in Waco, Texas.
