New Mexico State 3, San Jose State 1
Erin Birmingham posted a career-high 12 kills as New Mexico State defeated San Jose State 3-1 (25-11, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23) in Spartan Gym Thursday night. NM State moves to 11-6 on the season and 6-1 in WAC play, while SJSU falls to 0-16 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Birmingham hit .550 with only one error on 20 attempts as the Aggies hit .205 as a team. San Jose State hit just .061.
Kayleigh Giddens posted a match-high 13 kills and added 10 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Caitlin Andrade finished with 33 assists and 16 digs to pace the Spartans, while Alex Akana posted a team-high 12 kills.
Utah State 3, Fresno State 1
Liz McArthur and Emily Kortsen combined for 29 kills and 25 digs to lead Utah State to a four-set win (23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18) against Fresno State Thursday night. USU improves to 12-8 on the season and 3-4 in WAC play with the win, while the Bulldogs fall to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in league play with the loss.
Utah State hit .312 on the match, compared to the .161 of Fresno State. USU also had 12 more digs (68-56) and 5.5 more team blocks (11.5-6.0), while the Bulldogs had six more service aces (9-3) and four more service errors (8-4).
McArthur hit .240 in the match and Kortsen hit .400. Kortsen has now recorded double-doubles for USU in each of her last three matches and four of her last five overall. Shantell Durrant added nine kills and six blocks.
Kelly Leonardo led Fresno State with 10 kills and Kelly Mason had 12 digs.
Nevada 3, Boise State 1
After dropping the first set, Nevada rallied to defeat Boise State 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-11 in WAC play Thursday night. With the win, the Wolf Pack improve to 7-12 overall and 3-3 in WAC play. Boise State falls to 2-17 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
Nevada hit .237 on the match, compared to the .100 of the Broncos. The Wolf Pack also tallied more kills (53-42), assists (48-39), service aces (5-4) and digs (57-56), while Boise State won the blocking battle, 9-7.
Elissa Ji paced Nevada with 14 kills, while Lindsay Baldwin added 12. Nicole Link posted a match-high 22 digs.
Boise State was led by Sadie Maughan, who just missed a double-double with 13 kills and nine blocks.
