DENVER - Idaho's Treasa Ring and Fresno State's Stacey Luke were named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.
Ring, a freshman from Roseville, Minn. (Roseville Area HS), made her Vandal debut at the Debbie Pipher Invitational at Washington State and swam a school-record time of 55.89 in the 100-yard butterfly. It was also the top time by a WAC swimmer in that event this season. Ring added the fifth best time in the conference in the 100 free (52.84). She also swam the second legs of both the 400 free and 200 medley relays that placed second in the meet.
Luke, a freshman from Kenmore, Wash. (Inglemoor HS), took first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in the Bulldogs' victory over Fresno Pacific last Friday. Luke scored a season-best 250.20 points on the 1-meter board and 249.00 points on the 3-meter. Her 1-meter score was 30 points better than any Fresno State diver's since the program's return last year. The dual meet win for the Bulldogs was also the first for Fresno State since the program was reinstated.
Other swimmers nominated: freshman Rayanne Nguyen, Fresno State.
