No. 3 Hawai'i 3, Fresno State 1
Kanani Danielson matched her season high with 22 kills on .425 hitting as No. 3 Hawai'i defeated Fresno State in four sets (25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 25-20) in front of a national television audience on ESPNU at the Save Mart Center Thursday night. With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improve to 19-2 overall and 8-0 in the WAC, while Fresno State falls to 11-11 on the year and 4-6 in WAC play.
Hawai'i hit .312 on the match, compared to the .182 of the Bulldogs. The Rainbow Wahine also tallied more kills (52-51), assists (52-49), digs (54-43) and blocks (9-5) than Fresno State.
Aneli Cubi-Otineru added 13 kills, eight digs, three blocks and two service aces for Hawai'i, while Dani Mafua dished out 48 assists.
Lacey Gera led the Bulldogs with 12 kills, followed by Kelli Parker with 10.
Idaho 3, New Mexico State 1
Idaho won its fifth straight WAC match, a four-set victory over New Mexico State Thursday night at Memorial Gym. Sets scores were 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 31-29. With the win, the Vandals improve to 12-12 overall and 8-3 in WAC play, while NM State falls to 13-8 overall and 8-3 in the league. The two teams are now tied for second place in the WAC standings.
The Vandals out-blocked NM State 12-9 and had seven service aces to the Aggies' three. New Mexico State tallied more kills (63-45), assists (60-43) and digs (62051), but also committed 15 service errors in the loss.
Sarah Conwell led Idaho with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Anna McKinney had nine kills and nine blocks.
Kayleigh Giddens posted a match-high 18 kills and eight digs to pace the Aggies. Whitney Woods (14) and Kelsey Brennan (12) also had double-digit kills.
Utah State 3, Louisiana Tech 0
Liz McArthur set a school-record with her career-high 25 kills, while Christine Morrill tied a school-record with 20 digs to lead Utah State to a three-set win (25-19, 31-29, 25-16) over Louisiana Tech Thursday night.
Utah State, who snapped a season-high three-match losing streak with the win, improved to 13-11 on the season and 4-7 in WAC play, while Louisiana Tech fell to 14-13 overall and 4-7 in the league with the loss.
McArthur broke the school-record for kills in a three-set match that was held by former USU All-American Amanda Nielsen, who had 24 kills in a three-set win against Idaho during the 2007 season. Morrill tied the school-record for digs in a three-set match that was set most recently by Kelsi Peterson during the 2006 season against Louisiana Tech.
Shantell Durrant tied her career-high with 11 kills and hit .733 in the match, while Chelsea Fowles tied her career-high with 13 digs to go along with 44 assists.
Nataliya Panova had 10 kills to lead Louisiana Tech.
Utah State finished the match with a .323 hitting percentage and Louisiana Tech hit .206. USU also had 18 more digs (64-46) and four more service aces (5-1) in the match, while LTU had 1.5 more team blocks (9.0-7.5) and one fewer service error (3-2).
Nevada 3, San Jose State 0
Nevada snapped a three-match losing skid by sweeping San Jose State by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-13 in a WAC match at the Virginia Street Gym Thursday. With the victory the Wolf Pack improved to 8-15 on the season and 4-6 in WAC play while the Spartans dropped to 1-19 and 1-8 in league play.
Nevada out-hit San Jose State .329 to .032. The Wolf Pack also beat the Spartans in kills (36-27), assists (34-26), service aces (8-3), digs (33-25) and blocks (5-1).
Kylie Harrington led the Wolf Pack with 11 kills, while Lindsay Baldwin added 10. Setter Sonnie Sei was just shy of a double-double, finishing with 29 assists and eight digs.
Alex Akana led San Jose State with eight kills.
