Fresno State Beats USU, UH Picks Up 10th Straight Win

Fresno State 3, Utah State 1
Fresno State downed Utah State, 3-1 (25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 25-13), in WAC play on Thursday night at the Save Mart Center. It was the first time since 1991 that the Bulldogs have dedfeated the Aggies in less than five sets. With the win, Fresno State improves to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while Utah State falls to 10-7, 2-3.

Fresno State hit .182 on the match, while Utah State hit .112. The Bulldogs also had two more team blocks (10.5-8.5) and two more service aces (8-6) in the match, while USU had two more digs (56-54) and two fewer service errors (7-5). 

Lacey Gera led the `Dogs with 14 kills on .414 hitting. Kelly Mason had a match-high 21 digs.

Katie Astle had seven kills and hit .778 to lead Utah State, while Chelsea Fowles had 31 assists, nine digs and five kills.


Hawai'i 3, Nevada 0

No. 4 Hawai’i swept Nevada 25-12, 25-17, 25-16 Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The victory extends the Rainbow Wahine’s win streak to 10 matches.

UH improved to 14-2 on the season and 5-0 in WAC play, while the Wolf Pack falls to 5-12 overall and 1-3 in the WAC.
 
The win also gives head coach Dave Shoji his 998th career victory, just two wins shy of reaching the 1,000 victory milestone.

Amber Kaufman led Hawai'i with a career-high 15 kills on .700 hitting. Kanani Danielson added 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Stephanie Ferrell had nine kills and three digs. Dani Mafua set the offense to a .381 hitting percentage for the match, recording 41 assists.

Nevada was led by Kylie Harrington with nine kills.


Idaho 3, Louisiana Tech 0

Idaho swept past Louisiana Tech, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17, Thursday at Memorial Gym. With the win, the Vandals improve to 7-9 overall and 3-1 in the WAC. The Techsters fall to 12-9 overall and  2-3 in WAC play.

As a team, Idaho hit .243 with 44 kills and held Louisiana Tech to a .064 hitting percentage and 30 kills. The Vandals also held the advantage in digs (63-47) and blocks (10-5).

Sarah Conwell paced the Vandals with 18 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Kelsey Taylor had 11 kills on .647 hitting, while Meredith Rice tallied 18 digs and Cassie Hamilton finished with 14. Debbie Pederson led the Vandals with six blocks.

Nataliya Panova led Louisiana Tech with eight kills, while Lori Hunsucker posted 14 digs.


New Mexico State 3, Boise State 0
New Mexico State volleyball team swept past Boise State 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 in Boise, Idaho, Thursday. The Aggies go to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in WAC play, while the Broncos fall to 1-15 overall and 1-4 in the WAC.

Whitney Woods and Kelsey Brennan had six blocks apiece, while Erin Birmingham added five as the Aggies out-blocked Boise State 12-4. Krista Altermatt and Kayleigh Giddens each had a match-high 10 kills.

Jennah DeVries posted her third double-double of the season with 28 assists and 13 digs.

Boise State was led by Liz Griffin with nine kills. Lauren Hamm had a match-high 14 digs.
