Four Schools Remain in Hunt for Three WAC Tournament Berths

Hawai'i 3, Boise State 0
Hawai’i opened its three-match road trip with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 sweep over Boise State Thursday night at Bronco Gym in Boise, Idaho. With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improve to 24-2 overall and 14-0 in WAC play. Boise State falls to 6-20 on the year and 6-8 in the conference.

Overall UH hit .344 for the match and had 8.5 blocks, while the Broncos hit .121 with one block.

Stephanie Ferrell led the offensive attack Thursday night, recording a match-high 11 kills. Kanani Danielson added five kills and 11 digs, while Dani Mafua posted a double-double with 31 assists, 10 digs and five blocks.

Sadie Maughan led the Broncos with nine kills, while Amanda Remy had nine digs.


New Mexico State 3, Nevada 1
New Mexico State defeated Nevada 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-12, 25-17) in the Virginia Street Gym in Reno, Nev., Thursday night.  With the win, the Aggies go to 17-8 overall and 12-3 in WAC play, while Nevada falls to 10-18 overall and 6-8 in the conference.

NM State recorded a season-high 17 total blocks to the nine of the Wolf Pack. The Aggies also out-hit Nevada .265 to .000.

Whitney Woods posted a match-high 19 kills and added six total blocks, while Kayleigh Giddens added 14 kills and six blocks on the night. Jennah DeVries tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs to go along with six blocks. Erin Birmingham finished with a match-high 10 blocks.

Nevada was led by Kylie Harrington with 11 kills.


Fresno State 3, Louisiana Tech 1

Fresno State picked up a 3-1 victory (23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23) over Louisiana Tech on Thursday night at the Save Mart Center. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 13-13 overall and 6-8 in the league. Louisiana Tech falls to 15-17 overall and 4-11 in WAC play and is eliminated from contention for the WAC Tournament.

Fresno State had 68 kills and hit .202 to just 43 kills at a .149 clip for the Lady Techsters. The Techsters out-blocked the Bulldogs, 12-10.5.

Brianna Clarke finished with a team-high 15 kills on .583 hitting to go with seven blocks. Kelli Parker added 12 kills and a career-high 20 digs. Marissa Brand finished with 12 kills and nine digs, both career-highs, while setter Allanah Munson posted a double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs.

Nataliya Panova paced Louisiana Tech with 15 kills and eight digs, while Kassia Pinto posted 11 kills and 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.


Idaho 3, San Jose State 0
Sarah Conwell totaled 19 kills and 18 digs as Idaho remained undefeated at home in WAC play with a sweep of San Jose State Thursday. The Vandals (14-13, 10-4) used scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 27-25 to win their sixth WAC contest at Memorial Gym. San Jose State fell to 1-24, 1-13 with the loss.

Idaho had 15 blocks to improve its nation-leading blocks average to 3.21. The Vandals hit .250 for the match and held the Spartans to a .076 hitting percentage while the teams tied in digs at 60.

Conwell hit .340 and added four blocks to her league-leading 15th double-double. Debbie Pederson tallied six kills and 10 blocks, Meredith Rice totaled 18 digs and Cassie Hamilton added 10 digs.

Taylor Japhet paced San Jose State with 12 kills.
