Idaho 94, Utah 87
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Mac Hopson scored eight of his 16 points in the last six minutes as Idaho beat Utah 94-87 on Friday, bringing the team its first win against the school in 71 years.
Plagued by foul trouble, Hopson re-entered the game with the score tied and engineered a 13-6 run to end the game.
Steffan Johnson scored 19 points and Jeff Ledbetter added 16 as the Vandals (1-0) took its first game after losing 11-straight on the road.
The teams have played 15 times over the years and last Idaho victory was in 1938.
The Utes (0-1) trailed much of the game but made their comeback behind freshman center Jason Washburn. After falling behind by eight, Washburn scored six points.
But Hopson promptly hit an outside jumper and a leaner in the lane to spark the clinching surge for Idaho in the season opener for both teams.
Utah State 66, Weber State 60
OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Tyler Newbold scored 15 points as Utah State defeated Weber State 66-60 on Friday.
Nate Bendall had 13 points while Jared Quayle had 11 and Brian Green finished with 10 for the Aggies (1-0), who shot 20-of-22 from the free-throw line, including 5-of-6 in the final 47 seconds to seal the win.
Damian Lillard scored a game-high 20 points while Franklin Session had 11 for the Wildcats (0-1), who made just 2-of-20 from the 3-point line.
Newbold?s three-point play with 1:25 left in the first half gave the Aggies a 28-21 halftime lead.
The Aggies then opened the second half on a 12-4 run, capped off by a layup from Quayle, for their biggest lead of the game at 40-25.
Boise State 90, Loyola Marymount 87
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP)-- La'Shard Anderson went 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 35 seconds and finished with a game-high 26 points as Boise State edged Loyola Marymount 90-87 on Friday.
Paul Noonan and Kurt Cunningham added 16 apiece for Boise State in the opening game of the Karl Tyler Chevrolet Grizzly Tournament at the University of Montana in Missoula.
Loyola junior Larry Davis missed a chance for the tie as time expired. Davis paced the Lions with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting off the bench.
Anderson led an early second half surge with seven points as the Broncos opened a lead that swelled to 10 with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game.
Fresno State 65, San Francisco State 59
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Paul George scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Fresno State opened its season Friday night by defeating San Francisco State 65-59.
Greg Smith, a 6-foot-10 freshman from Fresno, added 17 points and 10 rebounds in his first game for the Bulldogs, who trailed 32-31 at the half but opened the second half with 12 unanswered points and led the rest of the way.
Marquel Hoskins had 18 points and eight assists for the Gators, who pulled to within 59-57 on Phoenix O'Rourke?s 3-pointer with 2:25 left.
On Fresno State's next possession, George drove to the basket before passing to Smith, who capped the play with a one-handed dunk. A steal and two free throws by Brandon Sperling with 1:33 left pushed the lead to 63-57.
O'Rourke finished with 15 points for Division II San Francisco State (2-1). The game counted as an exhibition for the Gators.
Hawai‘i 65, Southern Utah 48
HONOLULU (By Star-Bulletin staff) --Roderick Flemings scored 23 points to lead Hawaii past Southern Utah 65-48 in the season-opening basketball game for both teams Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
A crowd of 3,737 attended the first day of the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic.
Dwain Williams scored 16 and Jeremy Lay had 11 in their UH debuts.
Davis Baker paced the Thunderbirds with 14

Saint Mary's 100, New Mexico State 68
MORAGA, Calif. (AP)-- Ben Allen had career highs of 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, freshman Matthew Dellavedova added 19 points and Saint Mary's beat New Mexico State 100-68 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Wayne Hunter scored 19 points and Omar Samhan added 12 points and five rebounds for the Gaels, who were playing their first game without Patty Mills, the stellar point guard from Australia who left for the NBA following his sophomore season last year.
Hamidu Rahman had a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds for New Mexico State, which shot just 37 percent in the first half and trailed by as much as 31.
