Hawai'i Completes Perfect WAC Season

Hawai’i completed the WAC season with a perfect 16-0 record Monday night, beating Utah State in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13) in its regular season finale at the Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah, behind a career-high 32 kills by Kanani Danielson.

With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improve to 26-2 overall and finish 16-0 in WAC play, while Utah State falls to 14-14 overall and 5-10 in WAC play and falls out of contention for a berth in the WAC Tournament. UH clinched its 14th straight WAC title two matches ago and its perfect conference record marks the 12th time in history UH has finished without a loss.

Hawai'i totaled 73 kills in the match, the second-most in the WAC this season, compared to the 41 of the Aggies. The Rainbow Wahine out-hit Utah State .338-.174. The Aggies won the blocking battle, 11.5-6.

Danielson led the way Monday night, recording a career-high 32 kills on .446 hitting. The 32 kills are the most in a match for UH since 2006. Aneli Cubi-Otineru tied a career-high with 22 kills on .462 hitting. She also added 11 digs for her third double-double of the season.

Shantell Durrant paced the Aggies with 12 kills on .429 hitting, while Christine Morrill tallied a match-high 17 digs in the loss.
