DENVER - Northern
Arizona's Fiona Connell and Nevada's Aniesa Debaji were named the Verizon
Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.
Connell,
a freshman from Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia (Hill Sports), made her
Lumberjack debut last week and won all three individual events she competed
in. At a double-dual meet against New
Mexico State and Northern Colorado in Las Cruces, N.M., Connell won the
100-yard backstroke (56.84), 200 back (2:05.82) and 200 individual medley
(2:09.36), while also leading off the victorious 200 medley relay
(1:47.45). Her time of 56.84 in the 100
back is the fastest in the WAC this year, while her 200 back time is the third
fastest.
Debaji,
a sophomore from Edmonton, Alberta (St. Francis Xavier HS), won both diving
events in Nevada's 184.5-110.5 dual meet victory over Fresno State on
Friday. Debaji scored 274.80 points on
the 1-meter board and 313.58 points to capture top honors on the 3-meter.
Other
swimmers nominated: Dani Yoho, Fresno State; Marichi Gandionco, Nevada; and
Kelly Conrad, New Mexico State.
Other
divers nominated: Stacey Luke, Fresno State; and Taryn Harris, Northern
Arizona.
