No. 3 Hawai’i won in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) over Utah State Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center, and in doing so locked up the top seed in the WAC Tournament.
With a 13-0 WAC record and three matches remaining, the worst the Rainbow Wahine could finish this season is 13-3. Second place New Mexico State is currently 11-3, so the best it could finish is 13-3. However, since Hawai'i swept the regular-season series, it holds the tiebreaker.
As a team, Hawai'i out-hit Utah State .426-.153. The Rainbow Wahine also posted better totals in kills (52-24), assists (47-21), service aces (7-1) and digs (40-24). The Aggies won the blocking battle, 7.5-5.
Aneli Cubi-Otineru had 13 kills and hit .458 in the match, while Kanani Danielson had 13 kills, hit .480 and had 14 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Amber Kaufman added 10 kills and two blocks and hit .375.
Utah State was led by Liz McArthur with seven kills.
